Good game going right now. #10 Florida State playing catch-up against unranked Georgia Tech. Hopefully SSS is relaxing and enjoying the game.

Florida State just tied it up 21-21.

They are playing in Dublin Ireland.

Next week begins the full schedule.

About three months ago, I said I'd give up half my guts to beat Florida State. Well, I did, and they did.

Idaho Vandals start the season ranked #7 in the FCS poll (formerly Division 1-AA).

First game is against Oregon, ranked #3 in the FBS poll (formerly Division 1-A).

I sense an upset.

Georgia Tech and QB Haynes King have made one new fan this season:

A sloppy win over Georgia State, but in recent years, Tech has often followed big wins like last week's over Florida State with embarrassing face plants. So we avoided it to move to 2-0 for the first time in eight years. And we've got a new fan. Seamus from the WWE, who picked Tech to beat FSU on ESPN Gameday last week, showed up again this week on the Tech sideline and even led the Rambling Wreck on the field before the game.

The upset over Florida State turned out to not be much of an upset. Florida State is terrible this year.

But, today’s upset over Miami is a real upset. Congratulations SSS!

I don't mind saying I've been very upset since Tuesday. But today's game was a big boost for my own morale. What's really amazing is how much adversity Tech had to face. Our starting quarterback, Haynes King, got hurt last month and missed the last two games (both Tech losses). I think Tech could have won those games, even against Notre Dame, with a healthy King. But he came back today, and his shoulder was still hurting, so he probably couldn't throw downfield. Tech kept switching quarterbacks, with a true freshman coming in on passing downs and doing a good job of moving the ball.

Our leading rusher, Jamaal Haynes, had two big runs in the opening drive and scored a touchdown. He got hurt on his next carry and missed the rest of the game. Our #2 running back went out early in the third quarter as well. We still had a big game rushing the ball.

On defense, we held Miami to over 100 yards less than their season's average and 1-4 on fourth down (they were 10-13 going into the game). The game ended when they sacked Heisman favorite Cam Ward in the last two minutes and he gave up a fumble. The game ended with Tech on Miami's four-yard line.

A signature win for Coach Brent Key and the team.

Interesting and dismal fact for the state of Florida:

NFL, FBS, and FCS teams from Florida were a combined 0-11 last weekend, the first time that has ever occurred. The Miami Dolphins are playing the LA Rams on Monday Night Football and have a chance to make it 0-12.

Vandals win and go to 9-3 and stay at #8 in FCS ranking.

Boise State wins and moves up to #11.

There are other teams, but none really matter.

Well, at least we've got company today. Just ask Clemson. Just ask Ohio State.

10-1 Boise State moves up to #10 and plays UNLV on Saturday for the Mountain West title.

#8 Idaho hosts Lehigh on Saturday in the FCS playoffs.

There are probably other games.

Idaho wins over Lehigh and will face #1 Montana St. next weekend.

Boise State defeats UNLV to win the Mountain West championship. Looking like a 4 seed and a first round bye in the college football playoffs.

With Clemson winning the ACC, Boise is probably going to get the #3 seed.

Georgia Tech plays Vanderbilt in the Birmingham Bowl December 27. I'm disappointed we didn't draw an opponent with a better reputation. This game is like last year's bowl game against Central Florida. If Tech wins, everyone will say we didn't beat a "real" team. If Tech loses, we'll hear all kinds of crap for eight months.

Texas A&M plays Southern Cal the same day. According to the early lines, both Georgia Tech and Texas A&M are 2.5 point favorites (which I think is too low in both cases).

Since nobody in the NFL wants to hire Bill Belichick, he signed to coach North Carolina. He's apparent got some sort of deal where his son will become North Carolina's next coach in the not-too-distant future. North Carolina just fired 73-year-old Mack Brown because he was too old. So they're replacing him with 72-year-old-Belichick, which I guess is a youth move.

BTW, next year, Georgia Tech does not play North Carolina but does have road games against the other three North Carolina ACC schools. Tech's next game against North Carolina is in 2027, but I've got a feeling Belichick will be long gone by then. (His contract is reportedly five years.)
