for the 'other Popeye' 16,000 question that was a difficult question to put on celebrities. (and for 15,000 , I would think that would be worth higher like in the 125,000s) I have to say I understand why you might not wanna trust Jimmy for this. I was shocked that he knew. I would have never knew it was the french connection. (though I will say I am not the expert of knowledge) I have to say my Wi-Fi literally turned off before the answer (it turned off about the time he said the words french connection) but it made it to the DVR which seems to happen correct. by the way my Wi-Fi came back during call a friend so if there is a change in style that is why. (The 64,000 question was also too much) I kind of wonder are you required by contract to read the whole question when phoning a friend because I would have shorten it given the time limit. at least they got the answer. for the outsiders there was a brutal 50-50, I really have only heard about the play outsiders, I did not know there was a book for that one since it seem to have been a spin-off of Greece. granted that "possible school colour" story was really weird. (you have to see it to understand)

that first group was something else.I will say at rewatched it seems to be a little better and then I remember the first time but everything that was decent was overshadowed by some of the conversations. (Granted this was slanted by the some of the questions that were cut when the Wi-Fi was off) I just do not know why they put them on the show, they were not a good match.(in terms of playability, you can tell they were good friends)

Everyone in my generation knows The French Connection. Maybe it’s less popular today because the hero is a racist cop.

Two weeks ago John and Dave decided to shorten the question before reading it to their PAF. I think non-celebrity contestants could do that too in the old days.

Answer
A: Pick a cod, any cod
The clue about puns apparently did not register with these celebs and they were about to use a lifeline when Jimmy intervened and said, "you're not going to use a lifeline, are you?" Then, after repeating the joke, they finally caught on. Another case of blatant cheating by Jimmy on behalf of the celebrities.

$64,000
Besides Mexico, the only other UN member country with an “X” in its name can be found on what continent?
A: Europe B: Africa
C: Asia D: South America
PAF
Dave’s brother Mike is an English teacher. He says it’s Luxembourg.
Answer
A: Europe
An outstanding performance by the PAF, to come up with that response in the time limit. With one second left, he also told them that Luxembourg was in Europe; without that, they might have walked away because they couldn't identify the continent on their own.

In response to the question about phrasing, yes, contestants can rephrase it any way they want. That can be essential, with some long-winded questions that can leave almost no time for a reply.

Very generous of the question writers to leave only one choice with such a huge gap in the dates.

A: Howard Hughes (d. 1976) & Leonardo DiCaprio (b. 1974) B: Mahatma Gandhi (d. 1948) & Ben Kingsley (b. 1943)
C: Malcolm X (d. 1965) & Denzel Washington (b. 1954) D: P.T. Barnum (d. 1891) & Hugh Jackman (b. 1968)

The overlaps in the other choices were nail-bitingly close, but then they give a pair with a 77 year gap? Wow.
