It had completely slipped my mind that Lincoln visited Richmond within a few hours of its surrender/fall and he was in considerable danger while doing so.
He even got to sit at Jefferson Davis's desk not too long after he absconded.
Given his death just a few days later, I am glad for him that he had that moment.
