Former Army officer who was the only person convicted in connection with the My Lai massacre of civilians during the Vietnam War. Calley was the platoon commander of a unit that killed over 100 civilians. He was court-martialed and sentenced to life imprisonment but eventually served about three years, most of it under house arrest. He later lived in obscurity as a jeweler in Columbus, GA. He actually died in April in Gainesville, FL, but the death was just discovered during an unrelated public records search.
