Ciostner's Horizon-Spoilers

#1 Post by Spock » Tue Jul 02, 2024 4:52 pm

Oops-posted originally in the Poitical lounge by mistake and habit.

Whatever happens with it financially-I think it will outlive Yellowstone as his legacy.

I am probably the only one here that subscribes to Western History and Lifestyle magazines and events like "Lonesome Dove" are big favorites there to this day. I have seen "Horizon" described as seeing "Lonesome Dove" for the first time.

30 to 40 years from now-when Yellowstone has crumbled to dust-this (along with "Dances") will be Costner's legacy.

Notably, there is a very complicated and hard to understand book by Cormac McCarthy called "Blood Meridian" that deals with white scalphunters going after Apache scalps to sell them for the bounty.

Many would like to see it filmed, but it is largely believed to be unfilmable.

Well, it doesn't need to be filmed anymore. One of the storylines deals with white scalphunters going after Apaches (and other indians) for the bounty.

The spirit of Blood Meridian is present in the movie. As are things like John Ford's Cavalry movies and others greats.

Main weakness is the multiple storylines that are hard to follow-but presumably they will converge over time.

And, the beauty of the landscapes and such are second to none. Great visual look.

Part 2 is done and will be released this summer-and my understanding is that work is starting on Part 3 and that will happen regardless of finances.

I hope the stars align so he can do (the planned) Part 4 so we can see the completion of his vision and his legacy.

Part 2 will not be released in theaters this August. The official word is that New Line wants to give audiences more time to discover Part 1 on streaming before releasing Part 2. Part 1 will debut on streaming rental services next week and will eventually be available on Max. As of now, Part 2 is still scheduled for a theatrical release at some point.
