Happy (?) Memorial Day

This is a bit of a pet peeve with me, and I wonder if I'm the only one. All morning, I've heard people saying "Happy Memorial Day" on radio and TV. This is a holiday to commemorate those service personnel who paid the ultimate price. For anyone who knows what it's about, it's not a happy occasion. I lost both my father and my uncle due to injuries sustained in World War II. My uncle died in the War, and my father lost a leg and later died from injuries sustained before I was two. I realize that for many people this is nothing more than a "Beginning of the Summer" holiday, just as Labor Day is now the "End of the Summer" holiday. But for me, hearing Happy Memorial Day is a bit like going to a cemetery and telling people "Have a happy funeral."

Am I the only person who thinks like this?

Instead of saying, “Happy Memorial Day,” there are alternative greetings you can use that pay homage to the true meaning of Memorial Day. They include:

I hope your Memorial Day is meaningful.

I wish you an enjoyable weekend where you remember those who are no longer with us.

Good point. Probably because everyone's become inured to the many holidays and are saying rote things.
But, you don't sayhappy veteran's day or happy D-Day, etc. So, I do understand. My dad and grandfather served in each world war and my bil was shot down over Vietnam. They didn't die in the wars but are gone now.

Like funerals, holidays are for the living. You can commemorate the occasion of the holiday while still enjoying the festivities it also brings for the extra day off most people (LOL) get. People beat themselves up over stuff like this entirely too much...

And nobody barbecues or gathers together for D Day or Veterans Day, or else there'd be "happy" wishes for them as well....
