Digitizing Slides

Digitizing Slides
I just finished sorting through my family's slide collection from the 60"s and 70's and am looking for a projector (the one I have does not advance the slides). I am also wondering about digitizing them. There are about 1500 and I would like to transfer them to CD or thumb drive or the cloud or something. I've looked online and services that do it are very expensive and to use a home scanner seems very time consuming. Any suggestions?
