Lyrically Speaking - 2/29/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Feb 29, 2024 3:13 am

For our final look back at the decades, we have the 2010's... with the allegedly random spinner landing on 2015. Yep, I asked a trusted random number generator to randomly pick a year in each of six decades, and each time it chose a number five or less. Maybe next year we'll satisfy those who prefer the later years of decades....

Anyway, 2015! The year I somehow turned 40. While I just missed my sweet spot year of the decade (2014), I was still nevertheless easily able to find twelve popular songs from that year that I recognized, though maybe not necessarily liked. Good luck! Some of you will need it...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

I got around the usual ISE issues by adding an extra T to the word that seems to always trigger the ISE's, so don't criticize my poor speling!

1. Stylin', wilin'
Livin' it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself
I'm so pretty

2. You're the fear, I don't care
'Cause I've never been so high
Follow me through the dark
Let me take you past our satellites
You can see the world you brought to life, to life

3. It's been a long night here and a long night there
And these long, long legs are damn near everywhere

4. When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades
And the crowds don't remember my name
When my hands don't play the strings the same way, mm
I know you will still love me the same

5. I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away
Ooh, baby, 'cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta gett one little taste

6. Midnight
You come and pick me up, no headlights
Long drive
Could end in burning flames or paradise

7. And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always gett the best of me, the worst is yet to come
But at least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young
This I know, yeah, this I know

8. Now, there's one in California who's been cursing my name
'Cause I found me a better lover in the UK
Hey, hey, until I made my getaway

9. Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

10. Long live the pioneers
Rebels and mutineers
Go forth and have no fear
Come close and lend an ear

11. We were victims of the night
The chemical, physical kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
Oh, we were born to gett together
Born to gett together

12. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that was released or on the charts in 2015 (or anything kinda close, really).

Image Bonus: If you remember the 2010's, you obviously didn't live through them...

Spoiler
A TLAF story: When she was in the nursing home, no longer able to really take care of herself, she would listen the music channel on TV while she crocheted or did crossword puzzles. She liked the Big Band and Singers stations. The young aides came in and said, "Miss Ann, you have to get with the times." And changed the station to contemporary music.

SO, TLAF became a fan of Bruno Mars - we sang along with Pitbull's Fireball (hence my krox) - not ALL of Fireball, of course. And she became quite the fan of "That Gaga girl who sings with Tony Bennett."

Thank you for this year, lb.

And it's killing me when you're away
Ooh, baby, 'cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta gett one little taste

Glub glub. I'm drowning.

6. Midnight
You come and pick me up, no headlights
Long drive
Could end in burning flames or paradise

I got one! But then, I'm a Swiftie. (Not.)

Style, Taylor Swift

Xes and Ohs.

9. Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

10. Long live the pioneers
Rebels and mutineers
Go forth and have no fear
Come close and lend an ear

11. We were victims of the night
The chemical, physical kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
Oh, we were born to gett together
Born to gett together

12. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that was released or on the charts in 2015 (or anything kinda close, really).

Demons, Imagine Dragons

Image Bonus: If you remember the 2010's, you obviously didn't live through them...

1. Stylin', wilin'
Livin' it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself
I'm so pretty
Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars (Yeah, nobody remembers Mark, and that's OK. I can't understand how anyone could have possibly avoided this song over the past decade...)

2. You're the fear, I don't care
'Cause I've never been so high
Follow me through the dark
Let me take you past our satellites
You can see the world you brought to life, to life
Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Goulding

3. It's been a long night here and a long night there
And these long, long legs are damn near everywhere
Honey I'm Good - Andy Grammer (They played a lot of this guy's older stuff on the Mecca CD before he came out with this big hit, and I'm like, hey, he's a Mecca singer! See #11)

4. When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades
And the crowds don't remember my name
When my hands don't play the strings the same way, mm
I know you will still love me the same
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran (Not a fan of this guy, but this song in particular makes me want to barf...)

5. I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away
Ooh, baby, 'cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta gett one little taste
Sugar - Maroon 5 (I remember hearing this song at the casino one night and realizing it was part of a match we were looking for in the currently open lyrical Tangredi game...)

6. Midnight
You come and pick me up, no headlights
Long drive
Could end in burning flames or paradise
Style - Taylor Swift

7. And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always gett the best of me, the worst is yet to come
But at least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young
This I know, yeah, this I know
Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd (I always thought this song was dumb, but Blinding Lights has given this guy a lifetime pass in my book...)

8. Now, there's one in California who's been cursing my name
'Cause I found me a better lover in the UK
Hey, hey, until I made my getaway
Ex's and Oh's - Elle King (Daughter of Rob Schneider! Definitely somewhere in my Top 10 songs of the decade...)

9. Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
Fight Song - Rachel Platten (I was a bit surprised to find out this song was a hit, as it's just a huge Mecca earworm to me. It's the only place I've ever heard it...)

10. Long live the pioneers
Rebels and mutineers
Go forth and have no fear
Come close and lend an ear
Renegades - X Ambassadors (TBone loved this song, and this was one instance where I definitely differed with his taste in music....)

11. We were victims of the night
The chemical, physical kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
Oh, we were born to gett together
Born to gett together
Shut Up And Dance - Walk the Moon (Anna Sun was a Mecca CD staple and introduced me to this band before this huge hit broke. My Mom always had a group of "Colorado songs" from 1973-74 that were on the radio while she lived in Colorado Springs with my Dad stationed at Fort Carson. With my Dad's blessing she made two solo trips out there in the mid 2010's, and one of them coincided with this song's airplay saturation, as it became her only non-70's "Colorado song"....)

12. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing
Hello - Adele (The less I say about Adele, the better....)

Image Bonus: If you remember the 2010's, you obviously didn't live through them...

I'm giving the IBB to melly for another killer collage of a rather interesting decade...

Bob gets 3 JJC points for the almost impossible odds that he'd copy off of mrk's paper with an entire decade to play with...
