Lyrically Speaking - 2/26/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:11 am

What? Is it already the final week of the 2024 LSWE? Could've been worse, since I rarely tack on a sixth week to the contest, but for 2024 you get a leap week! And so here is the sixth and final Sesame Street Monday for the contest, brought to us this time by the letter P! Odd numbered songs are P titles, and even numbered songs are P artists, but you knew that already, right? Unless you're new, in which case, welcome to the LSWE!!!!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

I used a double wordy-durdy in Song #9, so keep BOTH bolded words bolded to avoid the dreaded Internal Server Error!

1. Now I've been smiling lately
Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun

2. You know I never
I never seen you look so good
You never act the way you should
But I like it
And I know you like it too

3. Girl, I can't understand it, why you want to hurt me
After all the things I've done for you
I buy you champagne and roses, put diamonds on your finger
(Diamonds on your finger)

4. I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college

5. And now you're punching, and you're kicking, and you're shouting at me
I'm relying on your common decency

6. You better watch what you say
You better watch what you do to me
Don't get carried away
Girl, if you can do better than me
Go

7. It's a dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand

8. The waiter just took my table
And gave it to Jessica Simps, shit
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy
At least he'll know how to hit

9. The meanings get lost, and the teachings get tossed
And you don't know what you're gonna do next
You wait for the sun but it never quite comes

10. Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning

11. It was the third of September
That day I'll always remember

12. Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble, it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist whose title or artist begins with the letter P (5 points if both begin with P).

Spoiler
I used a double wordy-durdy in Song #9, so keep BOTH bolded words bolded to avoid the dreaded Internal Server Error!

You could have not bothered and picked a song I knew instead....

1. Now I've been smiling lately
Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun

Peace Train - Cat Stevens

2. You know I never
I never seen you look so good
You never act the way you should
But I like it
And I know you like it too

Talk Dirty To Me - Poison

3. Girl, I can't understand it, why you want to hurt me
After all the things I've done for you
I buy you champagne and roses, put diamonds on your finger
(Diamonds on your finger)

Party All the Time - Eddie Murphy

Is My Girl Wants to a parenthetical? If so, is there some rule about a leading parenthetical?

4. I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college

Police

You've been using their asses all LSWE (and I know like two songs by them), so I'm sure they're in here somewhere.

5. And now you're punching, and you're kicking, and you're shouting at me
I'm relying on your common decency

People are People - Depeche Mode

6. You better watch what you say
You better watch what you do to me
Don't get carried away
Girl, if you can do better than me
Go

You Got Lucky - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

7. It's a dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand

Paperback Writer - Beatles

8. The waiter just took my table
And gave it to Jessica Simps, shit
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy
At least he'll know how to hit

So What - Diamond Lil (and Pink)

I could swear that it was sit with Tom boy! I can't find my damned Funhouse CD (I think it's in ol' Mary Jean and it's late and cold) to see if there are printed lyrics, but there's a whole damned booklet in the Greatest Hits So Far case and it doesn't have any damned lyrics printed! I guess I could look on the internet, but I don't trust any lyrics to be right on the internet. After this I'll have to devote some time to see if Pink herself has a lyrics site. Or watch the DVD that came with GHSF and see if I can read her lips...

9. The meanings get lost, and the teachings get tossed
And you don't know what you're gonna do next
You wait for the sun but it never quite comes

Police Song - Police

10. Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning

Magic - Pilot

Without the P prompt, I'm not sure I would have remembered the group

11. It was the third of September
That day I'll always remember

Papa Was a Rolling Stone - Temptations

As opposed to the third of June, which was kind of a bad day for Billie Joe....

12. Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble, it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Home - Philip Philips

Not to be confused with Phil Philips. This is the only song I know by him (did he have any others?) but I really like it. Nifty chord progression

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist whose title or artist begins with the letter P (5 points if both begin with P).

Paisley Park - Prince

I'm assuming the Van Morrison Rule doesn't apply here. I was going to krox Pause by Pitbull, but on the off chance I get an extra point for the Triple, gotta go with His Royal Badness. Speaking of extra points, did you ever credit me for those Bo Donaldsonn points (in addition to the penalty point for you just ASSuming in the first place?

Image Bonus: Today's Image Bonus is brought to you by the letter P.

Triple Barreled krox notwithstanding, it's not a proper P game without the man, the myth, the legend....

1. Now I've been smiling lately
Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun
Peace Train - Cat Stevens (Or "Be Strange" as I wrote on the mix tape I made from my 70's station back in the 90's the first time I ever heard this song...)

2. You know I never
I never seen you look so good
You never act the way you should
But I like it
And I know you like it too
Talk Dirty To Me - Poison

3. Girl, I can't understand it, why you want to hurt me
After all the things I've done for you
I buy you champagne and roses, put diamonds on your finger
(Diamonds on your finger)
Party All The Time - Eddie Murphy

4. I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
Wrapped Around Your Finger - The Police

5. And now you're punching, and you're kicking, and you're shouting at me
I'm relying on your common decency
People Are People - Depeche Mode

6. You better watch what you say
You better watch what you do to me
Don't get carried away
Girl, if you can do better than me
Go
You Got Lucky - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (Obviously going on the P for Petty since I didn't even consider the band...)

7. It's a dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand
Paperback Writer - Beatles

8. The waiter just took my table
And gave it to Jessica Simps, shit
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy
At least he'll know how to hit
So What - Pink

Image

9. The meanings get lost, and the teachings get tossed
And you don't know what you're gonna do next
You wait for the sun but it never quite comes
Part Of The Plan - Dan Fogelberg

10. Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning
Magic - Pilot (This was in the Top 10 the week I was born...)

Image

11. It was the third of September
That day I'll always remember
Papa Was A Rolling Stone - Temptations

12. Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble, it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Home - Philip Phillips (This guy had two pretty good songs come out around the same time that my radio station and the Mecca CD wore out. And now I can barely remember either of them....)

Image Bonus: Today's Image Bonus is brought to you by the letter P.

Lots of good stuff today. Fittingly for the P game, I'm giving the IBB to Panic for what has to be the world's worst children's interactive book....

Krox gets 2 JJC points for weird cartoons from the psychedelic era...

BiT gets 3 JJC points for staying out of the gutter and going with Da Reege...

Beebs gets a supermax for puppy surprise...

melly gets a supermax for joining Frank and Bob in the shameless self promotion club...

jarnon gets a JJC point for a waste of perfectly good Korbel...

Vandal gets 3 JJC points for Pedro helping the elderly to cross the street...

Earl gets a supermax for tom boy (Pretty sure it's drum boy), the third of June, some guy who looks like Paul Schaefer in that tiny picture, and to get her off my back about Bo Donaldson's not-so-biggest hit...

mrk gets a JJC point for pickles...

Pickled PEPPERS, thank you. As in Peter Piper picked a peck of them. I tried three other links that showed a little better connection, but all three of them had that "three full screens of garbage characters" thing that makes me madder every time. Anybody found a workaround for those? I can't use anything from Youtube, Pinterest, or amazon because of it.
