Lyrically Speaking - 2/14/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Feb 14, 2024 4:51 am

Rockin' in the USA follows the advice of Horace Greeley this week and goes west....

Image

Today's songs are all by artists or bands who come from one of my western states you see in yellow (or yeller). Yes, one state has very conspicuously been chopped off that map, which probably gives you a clue as to where next week's artists will be hailing from. Anyway, the states above will define my West zone, and if you've got a problem with that, then this town ain't big enough for the both for us...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 0 points for the state (The Earl Rule)....

1. A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido

2. Cryin' on the corner, waitin' in the rain
I swear I'll never, ever wait again
You gave me your word but words for you are lies

3. And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan

4. Hey honey, you could be my drug
You could be my new prescription
Too much could be an overdose
All this trash talk make me itchin'

5. "Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"

6. First things first
I'mma say all the words inside my head
I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh-ooh
The way that things have been, oh-ooh

7. If you can just get your mind together
Then come on across to me

8. I'll be your ghost, your game, your stadium
I'll be your fifty thousand clapping like one
And I feel alright, and I feel alright
'Cause I worked it out, yeah, I worked it out

9. I got your name from a friend of a friend
Who said he used to work with you
You remember the all night creature from Stereo Ninety Two?

10. You need love, but you're
Afraid that if you give in
Someone else will come along
And sock it to you again

11. Didn't I hear you cry this mornin
didn't I feel you weep
Teardrops falling down on me
Like rivers in my sleep

12. Well, we got no choice
All the girls and boys
Makin' all that noise
'Cause they found new toys

Hey, it's your fault for taking away OneRepublic. I was going to use Aerosmith since Tom Hamilton is from Colorado Springs, but you used Alice Cooper, who was actually born in Detroit. So I figured you'd ding me on a technicality since the group wasn't formed in Colorado.

1. A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (As much as I loathe this song [Tori Amos and Paul Anka versions notwithstanding], the game wouldn't have been legit without it....)

2. Cryin' on the corner, waitin' in the rain
I swear I'll never, ever wait again
You gave me your word but words for you are lies
Harden My Heart - Quarterflash

3. And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan
Indian Reservation (Parenthetical Lament) - Paul Revere and the Raiders (I was way more lenient than I should have been on the title for this one and accepting anything that had the word Cherokee in it...)

4. Hey honey, you could be my drug
You could be my new prescription
Too much could be an overdose
All this trash talk make me itchin'
Everybody Talks - Neon Trees

5. "Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"
Magic Man - Heart (Between Mecca and the radio station we listen to while taking Mom to lunch, I'm about sick of this song...)

6. First things first
I'mma say all the words inside my head
I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh-ooh
The way that things have been, oh-ooh
Believer - Imagine Dragons (Best song of the previous decade... and that's no slouch, I love a lot of music from the 2010's!)

7. If you can just get your mind together
Then come on across to me
Are You Experienced - Jimi Hendrix

8. I'll be your ghost, your game, your stadium
I'll be your fifty thousand clapping like one
And I feel alright, and I feel alright
'Cause I worked it out, yeah, I worked it out
Love Runs Out - OneRepublic (SECOND best song of the 2010's!!! Yes, I like this even more than Blurred Lines or Shake It Off...)

9. I got your name from a friend of a friend
Who said he used to work with you
You remember the all night creature from Stereo Ninety Two?
Don't Call Us We'll Call You - Sugarloaf

10. You need love, but you're
Afraid that if you give in
Someone else will come along
And sock it to you again
One Bad Apple - The Osmonds

11. Didn't I hear you cry this mornin
didn't I feel you weep
Teardrops falling down on me
Like rivers in my sleep
Strange Way - Firefall

12. Well, we got no choice
All the girls and boys
Makin' all that noise

School's Out - Alice Cooper

Image Bonus: Show me something from the West!

Definitely going with mikehardware's traveling where the buffalo roam for the IBB on this one! Sorry Earl, but I took Mom to an extra lunch this week since it's my vacay week, so I'm sure she'll be forgiving of me....

JJC Points:

mikeh gets a supermax for buffalo germs...

frank gets 3 JJC points for jackalope! I took a picture of Silvercamaro's (RIP) mounted jackalope she had during one of my Gridiron trips...

Krox (SMACK!!!!) gets 2 JJC points for getting cute again...

jarnon gets 3 JJC points for whipping out an image...

Panic gets a JJC point for natural landmarks we don't have in the Midwest...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for a real man of the west not giving a shit...

Bob gets 2 JJC points for big holes in the ground...

BiT gets a supermax for bar jokes, Taylor Fucking Swift, and for Area 51. When we were doing our Stupidcenter renovation 13 years ago, the new grocery area that was built and draped off from the rest of the store was used as temporary storage for just about anything that was getting moved around. It got dubbed Area 51, and if something was misplaced, there was a good chance it had gotten banished to Area 51...

Sprots gets 3 JJC points for politically correct cuisine...

melly gets 2 JJC points for the road runner who isn't a smug asshole...

mrk gets 2 JJC points for the first internet troll...

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for mocking Idaho (where is the bottom part of the left pole of that sign?)

Earl gets 3 JJC points for some big hill...
