2026 World Cup Finals in MetLife Stadium

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sun Feb 04, 2024 9:33 pm

FIFA announced details of the 2026 World Cup, which, for the first time, will be hosted by three countries, the US, Canada, and Mexico. The championship match will be in MetLife Stadium, while the semi-finals will be in Arlington, TX and Atlanta. The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups, with the top two finishers in each group plus the eight best third place teams advancing to the knockout round. Eleven cities in the US, three in Mexico, and two in Canada will host matches. Each team will play all three of its qualifying matches in the same country. The US team will play its three qualifying matches in Los Angeles and Seattle, while Mexico and Canada, which also get automatic invitations, will play their qualifying matches in their home countries. Canada will play one qualifying match in Toronto and two in Vancouver. The US cities will be divided into three zones, east, central, and west, with teams playing all their qualifying matches in the same zone. In scheduling the knockout rounds, FIFA will give first-place finishers in each group the easiest potential travel schedule and third-place finishers the most difficult.
