Lyrically Speaking 2/2/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 02, 2024 12:22 pm

Sorry for how late this is, but I've spent at least the past ten hours (at least) without an internet connection. Funny thing is, I thought about posting it early before I went to bed last night, but thought.... naw, I'll be up well before dawn. Yeah....

Those of you who actually follow "the news" have probably heard a lot about artificial intelligence lately. The dreaded AI. It's existed since the days when it made 8-bit Nintendo bosses so easy to beat with their predictable moves. Now it's finding its way into way more than just computer opponents. I don't know much about all the other uses of AI, but one thing I do know a lot about is AI art. Since I accidentally stumbled upon it last June, to say it's become an obsession of mine is putting it lightly. I've spent much of my free time playing around and learning how to use words and checkpoints to make images. Eight months and an almost $2,000 new computer later, I've got a new side business that just in the last month has almost paid for a quarter of that dream machine's cost. Yeah, I was thinking more about that than posting the LSWE game during the outage this morning.....

Anyway, since I've done art games in the past in LSWE, I figured I'd put The Mothership to good use....

Image

Below are sixteen images I made yesterday using my AI program. They're not quite the quality of stuff that earns me some spare change, but they'll do for LSWE.

The ODD numbered images represent a song title. Identify the song title and then name the artist for a point each.

The EVEN numbered images represent an artist. Identify the artist and then name any song title they recorded for a point each.

I realize that even "fake art" is interpretive and I'll accept anything that makes reasonable sense. Good luck!

I'm being waaaay more generous than I thought I'd be with accepting answers for this game. I like a lot of the alternate answers that have come up so far....

Those are some BEAUTIFUL images! I'm glad you've found a new outlet for your creativity and artistry, the side hustle is just a bonus! Speaking of, I've been planning on getting a memorial tattoo for Violet and was thinking about contacting a graphic artist I know in Chicago and then just present it to a tattoo artist whose aesthetic I like. But maybe I can inquire about commissioning a piece from you (if you're accepting private clients).

Good luck!

1. Candy Girl - Ricky, Ronnie...and, well you know....

2. Am I making this too tough? It seems like just Queen would be too simplistic, so I was thinking Queen Latifah, but you would have been more definitive with her look. Welp, going for the glaringly obvious instead of trying to figure out gingers with diamond cut sapphires..

Queen - Killer Queen

Obvs.... I need to look back at the image and see if I can find a hidden knife a la The Last Supper

3. Shock the Monkey - Peter Gabriel

At least I think it's him solo, for some reason I associate this with Sledgehammer

4. T-Rex - 20th Century Boy

If anybody other than possibly Hottie comes up with something other than Get It On, this monkey will be shocked...ha!

5. Bitch's Brew - Aerosmith

My first thought was Strange Brew, but this seems to fit better

6. Glass Tiger - Don't Forget Me

Now this would be a gorgeous tattoo! I'm also making up for going with their biggest hit by leaving out the parenthetical....

7. Basket Case - Green Day

My alternative was The Sweetest Little Baby in Whole Wide World (Why are You So Cute?)

8. Poison - I Won't Forget You

Had to double check the even/odd on this one...

9. Fox on the Run - Tom T. Hall

Everybody that bet on me saying The Sweet, pay up!!

10. Men at Work - Land Down Under

11. Crocodile Rock - Elton John

12. Sir Mix-a-Lot - Baby Got Back

This one made me laugh... oh, the song titles I came up with before realizing it was an artist one.

13. Downtown Train - Rod Stewart

14. Alice in Chains - Rooster

15. Wildfire - Michael Murphey

I guess that's it, but it's a dead ringer for Blucifer, of DIA fame...

16. Los Lobos - La Bamba

I know this isn't right because there's only one and I'm going to kick myself when I find out the answer...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist about inhuman machines.

In the Year 2525 - Zager & Evans

Yes, I know it's a cop out, but it's late and I'm tired....

Image Bonus: Rage against the machine...

Because there were so many different answers given for the images, I decided to play this like The Match Game and award an extra point if you got the title or artist I was thinking of... which made for some very high scores.

Image
CANDY GIRL - Frank Valli & The Four Seasons or Ronnie Bobby, et, al.

This one by far got the most different interpretations out of all of the images, and I accepted most (but not quite all) of them. Just about anything related to candy or sweets was accepted. Oh, and did you pick up the Annie Bonus to make this a four pointer?

Image
Anything by QUEEN

This one was pretty straightforward, which in itself seemed to throw someone off. Kudos to Frank to turning this one into a bonus Annie Bonus...

Image
SHOCK THE MONKEY - Peter Gabriel

There are many common ordinary objects that are still beyond the grasp of the AI art overlords, and apparently an electric chair is one of them. I had to grab a pic off Google and have it turn the dude (who was actually a wax figure) into a monkey...

Image
Anything by T-REX

This image was skewed because I had to really up the vertical to horizontal ratio to get the damn thing standing. Apparently the default dinosaur for AI is a stegosaurus. Big props to Panic for "Jeepster," which will net him a JJCP or two...

Image
WITCHY WOMAN - The Eagles

I think I took all of the alternate answers for this one, including Bitch's Brew which is probably better than what I intended...

Image
Anything by GLASS TIGER

This may have been what inspired me to do this game, because AI can make some really awesome things out of glass, diamonds, ice, you name it...

Image
THE CAT'S IN THE CRADLE - Harry Chapin

It amuses me so much that Earl missed this one, though still got credit for Basket Case, which describes most cats anyway...

Image
Anything by POISON

And this would be the one that had me sort the images into titles and artists, since it could go either way.

Image
FOX ON THE RUN - Sweet

Or Anthony Michael Hall, or whoever. As with Candy Girl, any artist who did a song by that title was accepted...

Image
Anything by MEN AT WORK

AI likes to render all women with big boobs and all men with hipster beards....

Image
CROCODILE ROCK - Elton John

I don't think anyone missed this one, and really, you shouldn't have....

Image
Baby Got... errr, Anything by SIR MIX-A-LOT

This was my fave of the bunch, and naturally it was a last minute fill-in because I couldn't get the AI to render a doctor with a pirate's hook in place of his hand...

Image
DOWNTOWN TRAIN - Rod Stewart

The city buildings were key here, though anything referencing a train was accepted...

Image
Anything by ALICE IN CHAINS

I knew this group was going to throw some of the people who could identify it.... but I couldn't resist. I took Cinderella, and there may have been another alternate I accepted that I'm forgetting now....

Image
WILDFIRE - Michael Martin Murphey

As we discovered in that Tangredi game I did a few years ago, put Wildfire and The Unknown Soldier together and you get A Horse With No Name...

Image
Anything by LOBO

I knew going in that there were going to be some guesses for Los Lobos, which I did accept even though there's un lobo solamente. But if the Los Lobos guesses didn't beat out the Lobo answers, then it was close...

Image Bonus: Rage against the machine...

There was something about seeing a group of stuffy guys in suits going gangbusters on an old pinball game that absolutely cracked my ass up. So the AI has selected melly as the winner of the IBB...

JJC Points:

BiT gets 3 JJC points for how I felt about my last laptop, and for putting Sheena Easton on the wrong train...

frank gets 2 JJC points for going right where I thought he would with the Image Bonus (though I was hoping for the electric razor)....

mikeh gets 3 JJC points for 404 cat...

Panic gets 3 JJC points for beloved Mecca earworm "Jeepster," and for an IB I didn't get but still thought was hilarious...

jarnon gets 2 JJC points for turning everything into Imbolic...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for a VERY inspired answer to #3, and for Vend A Goat...

Krox gets 3 JJC points for KISS (I even think I accepted it), and for Luddites...

mrk gets 2 JJC points for A-Knight-a Baker (I didn't accept it, but thought it was cute)....

Vandal gets 3 JJC points for giving KITT more horsepower...

melly gets 3 JJC points for the pinball vice squad...

Earl gets 2 JJC points for being foiled by a double ISE (I had to post her answers, which she emailed me), and for being wrong about the Bored's T Rex knowledge...

Points:

Hopefully I got these all right, but since I'm not 100 percent sure what I initially accepted and didn't, the scores would be difficult to verify....

BiT 47+3
frank 53+2
mikeh 50+3
Panic 43+3
jarnon 26+2
Beebs 20
Weasel 47+3
Krox 41+3
mrk 44+2
Vandal 49+3
melly 54+3+5
Hottie 43
Earl 52+2
