The Annual Migration of the Spocks to Frisco, Texas

1) For the 5th time in as many non-Covid affected seasons, various iterations of the Spock family made their way to Frisco, Texas, for the FCS College football national championship.

The first 4 trips were to see North Dakota State play-they won 3 of 4, and this time myself and Littlest Spock went to see Montana (his alma mater) play. I wore the Montana maroon and while the results were disappointing, I am glad we went.

2) We had a down day (Saturday) and we didn't know what we would do. He had been along 2 years ago when they went to Fort Worth Stockyards, Cowboys Stadium and JFK stuff so he didn't really feel like doing that again-even though I hadn't.

So, we drove about 100 miles out and went to Larry McMurtry's hometown (Archer City) on the off-chance that his bookstores (Booked Up) there were still open. They weren't, but we could see that one neglected building was still full of books.

3) Jacksboro Texas area is very beautiful. Going to Archer City was typical flat north Texas scrubland, but comin back we went through Jacksboro and it was rolling wooded hills. Funny how much the land can change in a few miles.

4) I usually bring a book with me into restaurants to read while we wait, hell everybody else looks at their phone, so I might as well read. But this time, the waitress was very interested in the book (Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall). She wanted to know about the book and took a picture of the cover so she would remember.

I was my usual suave and debonair self when a 20-ish attractive female talks to me-"Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah." If Mrs. Spock had been along she would have been laughing at me.

5) Car Game. Try to pair each state of the 48 with an adjoining state that makes the most sense. It is harder than it seems. For example, you want to put New Hampshire and Vermont together-but you can't because New Hampshire has to go with Maine.

Things worked a little better once I figured out to put Pennsylvania and Delaware together. Tennessee is a tough one to pair as is Colorado.

Yeah, but the cost would be-who do you pair Colorado with?-And the Tennessee/Kentucky/West Virginia area?LOL

It is an odd number of states(I think) west of the North Dakota/Texas corridor. So you have to bring at least one east. Ca/Nv=Az/Nm=Or/Was= Idaho/Utah (deciding factor was the high Mormon percent in each)=Mt/Wy=Co and either Ks or Nebraska?

We just about broke the huge Winstar casino on the Tx/Ok border. I won 300 and Littlest won 275. I was figuring that they might have to give us the deed to the place, but then learned that the guy sitting next to Littlest was down $6,000 at blackjack-So that dream died.

$6000! Ugh! Do they use continuous shufflers or automatic ones with a shoe? I brought back $500 from Las Vegas a few weeks ago, even after getting robbed by the continuous shufflers.

I think they were playing at a table with the shoe. I like Blackjack-but my main game is Double Double Bonus Video Poker. I like the high value of the Aces. My winning hand was I kept one Ace and I got dealt the other 3 and a 2 kicker for a $500 win. Played for a while longer and left with the $300 gain.

For years, I have been playing nickel video poker, but you really can't win much-so for the last while I have put my $100 for the trip into quarter video poker and I have done much better since I started doing that. Never 4 Aces with the kicker though before now.

I don't trust the video games. The first time I played poker in a casino, I got a pair of aces on my first hand, and the flop had two more. My poker face must have been terrible, as no one called. That was at Trump's Taj Mahal.

All we have here are Indian casinos and I do not trust the video games at those. But we go a few times a year for entertainment with no expectation of winning. However, I do trust the video poker games in Vegas. I think there are enough regulations and such there that you can count on a fair deal (pun intended).

Not sure about straight-up slot machines, but the only one I play (a little bit) is "Texas Tea" which is based on the Texas oil industry. One of the bonuses is that you get to select various regions of Texas for oil wells. I always choose the Permian and Eagle Ford areas and go from there if I have more choices.
