Worst Baseball Suspension Ever

Baltimore Orioles play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown was suspended indefinitely from the team's broadcasts after comments made before the July 23 game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Brown noted that the Orioles had a chance to win a series in Tampa for the first time since 2017, going 0-15-1 since then. (Baltimore went on to win the game.) The comments were the typical sort of statistics that announcers throw out numerous times per game. (You can click on the embedded tweet in the link below to hear what he said.) The report originally appeared on the website "Awful Announcing" but has been picked up by ESPN and numerous other outlets. The team issued an official "No comment" to the website and said Brown would be back soon. (Probably a lot sooner now that this report has gone viral.)

With players, managers (and coaches in other sports), team officials, and announcers getting suspended for all sorts of inappropriate comments, this one has to be totally ridiculous.

So, suspended for stating facts, literally? That's never happened before.

What specifically was inappropriate, and why was it inappropriate? Did Orioles managment get their feelings hurt?

He pointed out that the Orioles had crappy teams for the last several years. You hear on football broadcasts all the time things like that "Vanderbilt is looking for its first win against Alabama since 1984." (I had to look that up.) Nobody gets upset. Vanderbilt fans know they've had crappy teams for the last 40 years. The Baltimore clip lasted less than a minute, and I took it to mean that the announcers were excited about the Orioles having a good team (and being in first place).
