This sent the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.
The scary part is when he says the chatbots were communicating "Other things that we couldn't understand."
FWIW, one night 5 and 1/2 years ago, as I was musing on this kind of stuff. It hit me like a lightning bolt. "They will develop their own language-Slowly at first and then faster and faster."
At that time, I had never seen any videos or such pointing in that direction-I guess I was just following things through to their logical conclusion.

The CEO of ChatGPT testifies to the danger of his own technology.
I'm surprised that Republicans like Spock are fixated on the existential threat to humanity, while Democrats are concerned about more immediate attacks on free society. Every issue is politicised these days.

Those concerned about a more immediate attack on people's bank accounts may have reason to be worried. I've already gotten warning notices from a couple of my banks and credit card accounts that scammers may be using AI to draft better phishing scam letters. The sort that begin something like: "This will confirm your $1500 purchase of the latest iPhone. If this wasn't you, contact our customer service number." Many of these scam emails are extremely easy to spot now (although they still get their share of victims) because the people who draft them aren't familiar with today's business English, and the emails contain misspellings, typos, and awkward constructions. AI could help the scam artists compose fake emails that sound much more like the real thing.
PS: Anytime I contact Amazon or a bank by phone or email, I don't reply to an email of theirs. Instead, I go to their website and enter through that portal.

Not just amazon or banks, anything you do or buy online. You can generally tell if the url is weird.

Also, we get texts "Are you so and so that lives at so and so? We can sell your house."
Check whocalledme etc and it's usually a foreign group boiler room.
And block number, duh

Unfortunately, anyone who responds to an unsolicited email or text is taking a big risk.
Funny timing on this, but the "villain" in the new Mission Impossible movie is an artificial intelligence device called the Entity that kept developing on its own and eventually became sentient. Now it has the capability of controlling all the world's digital communications and intelligence networks unless Tom Cruise can stop it.
P.S. If he does, he'll have to wait a year until the next Mission Impossible movie comes out to do so.
