Arrest Made in Gilgo Beach Killings

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Fri Jul 14, 2023 2:35 pm

Police in New York arrested Rex Heuermann, a 59-year-old Long Island architect and charged him with three murders in the Gilgo Beach Four case, one of the most notorious unsolved (until now) serial murders in US history. In December 2010, the bodies of four women were wrapped in burlap and found buried near each other in a remote area of Gilgo Beach on Long Island (near where Heuremann lives). He is a suspect in the death of the fourth woman but hasn't been charged. Since those four bodies were discovered, police have uncovered as many as a dozen other bodies of women (and one man dressed as a woman) on nearby beaches. All the victims were believed to be sex workers, some of whom disappeared as long as ten years earlier. Police suspect more than one killer may be responsible for the various murders. Heuermann is being held without bail.

The case has been the subject of numerous documentaries, true crime shows, and podcasts, and the inspiration for several other books and movies.
