I'm Back (Redux)

You may have noticed my absence from the Bored the last week or so. It's not due to any complications regarding my wife (fortunately). It's not due to my taking some sort of vacation (not in the cards). It's not due to my being upset by some of Flock's recent posts (a constant but minor annoyance).
No, it's been more mundane. My internet, landline, and TV service went out for almost a week. The water lines running through the complex are over fifty years old, dating from when it was built. They spring leaks occasionally, and the maintenance people have to dig them up to replace the damaged portion. Last Saturday morning, they did this, and they cut the phone line when they did so. Goodbye phone service. Goodbye internet. Goodbye, internet-based AT&T TV service. Although I called AT&T immediately to let them know what happened and why, they insisted at first they had to run tests on the entire globe in order to find the source of the outage. Then it took more time finding people to go fix it because of the holiday. (Somehow, I don't think if the power went out, Georgia Power would wait until July 5 to start looking for the cause.) But finally it came back. Ironically, we had a similar outage in February (not caused by digging up and accidentally cutting the phone cable). That time, the cable shorted out for some reason. But they went through the same routine of having to run all sorts of tests to figure out where the problem was. Ironically, the two locations where they repaired the cable were about 100 feet from each other.
The February outage hit Mrs. SSS hard because it upset her routine. She wasn't here this time, so that's one small consolation. In February, our daughter had foot surgery and was laid up for several days. Naturally, the service came back right after she went back to work. This time, due to the holiday, she was off work from Saturday to Wednesday. Same thing happened.
I did go to the local library branch to check up on the news and the Bored while my service was out. One of these days, I'll have to try getting another smartphone..
