DeSantis guy here, but-North Dakota Republican governor Doug Burgum is going to throw his hat into the ring this week-that should really shake things up-LOL. God, could anybody be more milquetoast?

But, seriously, while I knew he had sold his software company (Great Plains Software) to Microsoft several years ago-I didn't know that Fargo is Microsoft's second biggest campus.
I knew there was a Microsoft offic there, we have several former MS employees working in our IT organizatin in Fargo. I didn't know why they had an office, but I do now. Thanks.
Li'l Spock and I went to a land auction this past winter for entertainment. Somehow, we started talking to an older gentleman who had been some sort of fundraiser for Concordia College in Moorhead.

Interesting, but I have never met a name-dropper like him.

He was keeping Ron Offutt apprised of the land sales prices. Offutt is a major bigwig who is probably the biggest potato farmer in the world and has numerous other interests as well and is a Concordia alum.

It wasn't very long into the conversation and he let us know that he had met Bill Gates-etc etc.

Looks like I'm going to have to start up another Presidential edition of Fire Up the Toaster in the next couple of months.

At least do it for your grandkids. What you think best for them.

Really. Remember this

Yes, I do. And I remember how Republicans keep chipping away at it.

Add another one to the list. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has filed to run for President.

My toaster thread is going to be very busy in a few months.

Former Texas Congressman Will Hurd announced he is running for President. Like Chris Christie, he is one of the few Republican politicians openly criticizing Trump and called a Trump-Biden rematch "the rematch from Hell." Florida Senator Rick Scott is also considering a run.

A few other declared candidates I wasn't aware of: Texas businessman and pastor Ryan Binkley; California talk show host Larry Elder (who ran to replace Gavin Newsom as governor in the recall election); and Michigan businessman Perry Johnson.

That Toaster thread is going to be very busy in the upcoming months.

You're right about that. He should just keep his mouth and just do it like Obama and Biden did.

My "Fire Up the Toaster" thread is going to be busier than I thought.

According to the Federal Election Commission's most recent update, 1,010 people have filed papers to run for President. That includes 154 Democrats and 280 Republicans. Many of the others listed themselves as Independent, none, or some similar non-party affiliation. So far, nobody has filed to run under the "No Labels" party that has attracted some attention as a possible third party. The vast majority of these candidates have not reported raising any money in support of their candidacy so far.

If you play with these statistics, you get some interesting results. For example, if you sort by the amount of money raised, the top three are, not surprisingly, Trump, Biden, and DeSantis. But number four is Republican John Anthony Castro, who raised $20M in the form of a loan to his campaign (translation: it looks fancy, but if he doesn't spend the money, he takes it back when he drops out.) He's a Texas tax attorney who filed as a Republican but his policies definitely appear to be more liberal. In 2023, he filed suit to block Trump from running in the 2024 election.
