The Little Velociraptors

1) Day 1 of calving this year (early April) resulted in one dead calf from a gold cow-I am not sure why it died.
2) Day 2 of calving had a pair of red twins born. It is my experience that my cows only feed one of the twins and reject the other-so I try to figure it out in time and take the reject and bottle feed it.
3) It was a developing clusterf*** watching what was going on. The mother kept jumping between the 2 calves and the gold cow from Day 1 was trying to steal one-this was something I had never seen before.
4) It was a cold morning and we (the kids and I) made the decision to take both calves away and bottle feed them both.
5) They are about a month old and they are little jerks when you feed them. We have them in the same pen and they attack you as soon as their bottle is done. Yesterday morning, I said they are officially not cute anymore (they still are but). Then last night, Li'l Spock described them as velociraptors as they attack from different angles in tandem with the other.
6) The gold cow kept trying to steal other calves as they were born and I think she is sharing a calf with the true mother as I have seen it sucking off both cows-not sure if she still has milk or not.
7) Most people try to pen the gold cow up and try to buy (or find) a calf to place on her-this would have been a perfect situation for that-but I do not have pens for that.
I am still amused by the gold cow trying to steal calves-live and learn I guess.
9) I have had one (known) set of twins this spring and took away the right one as she left one behind as she left with the other one.
