RIP Gordon Lightfoot

#1 Post by mellytu74 » Mon May 01, 2023 8:04 pm

The Canadian troubadour died this evening. He was 84 years old.

Carefree Highway will always be one of those "special place, special song" songs for me.

I didn't see any Gordon Lightfoot songs in Frank's quiz so we cannot blame him.

Sadly, not a hoax this time, as the report was about a decade ago.
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

The Guess Who are far from my favorite band, but I love these lyrics --

And Lightfoot
Edwardian, suddenly striped
His hair blondish and poetic
He is less than vinyl perfect
His foot is a precise anchor for the husk and vibrance of his voice.
. . .
'm not saying that I'm sory
I'm just telling you this story
And when Lightfoot's magic calls
You can write it on your walls
'Cause that's what walls are for
He is an artist.

Thanks for the songs.

-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
