I think this will be the completed list of songs, so I've removed the lyrics. Frank's disclaimer about the Tangredi reminded me of the game I did five years ago. We're not looking for a specific formula, we're looking for a concept...


Identify the 85 songs below. Then, match them into 5 quartets, 9 trios, 20 duets, and 5 solos according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Seven songs will be used twice.

No song will be matched with itself. As for the Tangredi, there are some variations to it. Just like in real life.

I'm thinking there may be multiple ways to apply the Tangredi, like in that old game of mine. I've been stewing on the "canned" in the title and the "variations, just like in real life" that Frank gave in the intro trying to put something together, all to no avail...

This is a tough one, but like so many other games, the Tangredi can be expressed in less than a dozen words.

I will offer you one pointer: the artists of the songs on this list don't matter.

While waiting for a lengthy download last night, I took a good, hard look at this game. Even eliminating the artists (which I'd already suspected were irrelevant), I don't have much more than I noticed when I first compiled the complete song list. And while they may be way off base, here's a few things that have stood out to me....

- There are six songs in this game, including two of the non-pop music entries, that contain the word LITTLE. While that word isn't exactly uncommon in song titles, I'm not sure a random selection of 85 songs is likely to spit it out six times...

- I also noted there were two BOOGIE songs along with a BOOGALOO and a BOOM BOOM. Combined with the LITTLE thing, that got me noticing just how many double letters there are in this game. I mean, MISSISSIPPI anyone?

- On the repetition front, there's MELLOW YELLOW and EMOTION IN MOTION, along with a few others that kinda repeat letters or syllables.

- And unrelated to all of that, a lot of the titles contain titles of other songs within them... though I strongly suspect that's not an avenue this game goes down, it does kinda seem to be prevalent more than you'd expect.

- I really think Frank was tossing us a hint with the "Tangredi can be expressed in less than a dozen words" line. The literal first thing that popped in my mind was the word "condensed," and a lot of canned things are condensed.... but again, I think that's overthinking on my part as I have no clue how it would apply to this game....

Some blind alleys I've gone down recently:

Thought Canned might be a reference to Cannes film festival, checked titles of award-winning films there.

Thought Canned might be a reference to movie music in general, so checked things like Oscar winners for best song and score. No luck.

Thought Canned might be a reference to getting fired, so checked several lists of worst songs ever.

Wondered if "Just like in real life" might be a cryptic clue. "Real Life" is both the title of a song by The Weeknd, and a song in tick, tick ... Boom! the movie musical about Jonathan Larsen and Rent. Got excited when I saw the Boom! since we have boom boom pow on the list, but so far, no luck.

Still wondering about Frank's comment about "the artists of the songs ON THIS LIST don't matter. Like maybe there's another list of 39 songs and/or artists that we can assemble from pieces of the titles on this one. I went down this rabbit hole several times in several different ways, and I'm still not convinced it's not the key.

OK, I see a whole lot of songs in the titles now.... including a few that are too good to be coincidental. Not sure what the connection is though....

A lot happened while I was away!

This one is a variant of my old Pop Muzik game, where the artists were all groups that started with the letter M.

Another one that I saw very early on, but couldn't come up with any possible connection:

1. THE BATTLE + 49. OF NEW ORLEANS = JOHNNY Horton

43. POOR + 29. SIDE OF + 68. TOWN + JOHNNY Rivers

This uses town twice, but one thing I noticed is that Frank did NOT say this time that multiples will be used in different ways, so I guess it's still okay.
