Your high school song....

Do you remember yours? Do you know the words?

Kay reminded me in another post about all the graduations going on right now. We recently returned from Albuquerque, where we attended a graduation at my former high school. When it came time to sing the song, everyone pretty much mumbled their way through it. I've always liked the song. It sounded like some of the other high school songs I've heard in the past. It was filled with pep and spirit. LOL

Fast forward to today's graduation for my niece. It was for high school of Rigby, and most of the town turned out. (seriously) The words to the song were printed in the graduation program. During one part of the ceremony, I sang/whispered to Sam a peppy version of their song. I hadn't heard it prior to today, so I was just guessing. The words were downright silly during parts of it. The kicker came when it was time to actually sing the song. The "organ" started playing. I think we sounded more like we were singing a hymn than a school song. It was very sloooooow too. Sam also got a big kick out of some of the lyrics, especially the part about "sons of Rigby" LOL

Sing along!

The Rigby High School Song

Here we stand before you, Gold, White, Maroon.
Now altogether we will honor you. Yes, we're the sons of
Rigby, loyal and true. Three cheers for Rigby, Gold <----------------*cheer?* hahahaha
White, Maroon. We will be brave, we will be strong,
We will make the name of Rigby feared and respected. (scared yet?)
We will be fair, we will be square, we will lift the name
Of Rigby ever on high.
Here we stand before you, Gold, White, Maroon.
Now, altogether we will honor you. Yes,
we're the sons of Rigby, loyal and true. Three cheers
For Rigby, R-H-S.

*being fair and square is always important, imo though.*

I went to four high schools. I never learned the songs.

I know the Rydell Fight Song because I chaperoned Maddie's Grease production.

Ours was written by our band director, and was always printed in the program if they expected us to sing it.

I never sang it but maybe once, at an awards thingy the day before graduation. I got a couple of doodads, and thought I should pretend to have school spirit.

I presume you mean high school FIGHT song.

I never learned all the words, since I was in the marching band and pep band. I never had to sing it - I had to play it! It was a very slightly modified version of "Across the Field", the Ohio State University fight song.

I still know my part (Bass Clarinet) very well, and could probably still play it without the music, even though I graduated in 1985.

On, Wisconsin!
On, Wisconsin!
Fight on for your fame!
Take the ball right down the floor --
A basket for this game
RAH! RAH! RAH!
On, Wisconsin!
On, Wisconsin!
Fight on for your fame!
We're gonna fight, ladies,
Fight! Fight! Fight!
And win this game!

I believe that I could play the flute part to On Wisconsin also.

I went to this school and didn't know this fact.

Well, I think my high school one was more of a fight song. The one today was more of a lay down and take a nap song.

I have no idea if we had a school song, but I remember the school fight song. We had a sizable thread on it months ago discussing the sexy tuba part. And I sort of remember some of the words. Well, I remember that Thunderbird was in there.

Anyway, this is SO weird! Saturday night, I don't even remember what brought it up, but we started talking about the Wasson fight song and I asked the boys if it was still the same, they said I don't know, so I bum bum bummed the whole tune. I must have done okay, because they recognized it and said it was still the same.

I wonder if Rick Gossage remembers it. Ha!

I hated all of my high schools.

So just imagine my own person hell when I have to go back there three days a week to take Maddie to Quiz Bowl practice.

The best part is the company that I used to work for, McCarthy, is renovating the school, so I see there signs all over the place.

That came up this weekend -- we were passing the time in a three-hour line at the State Dems convention and somebody brought up that Goose was from the Springs. I chipped in that Elway was from Stanford, but I forgave him. Yeah, it was about that boring in person too...

Ahhh yes, the sexy tuba part. I will now laugh again about that. Thanks for the reminder about that thread!

Yes, I went to the same high school as Rick Gossage. But not at the same time, because he is old and I am not old.

He doesn't live in the neighbourhood anymore, though. He lives over in the Garden of the Gods with Rick Barry and Jan Stenerud. I think athletes all congregate over there because of the schmancy golf course.

Kidding, Dave!

This was starting to remind me of the days when we usta make fun of the singles on the Night Crew if they started complaining about their lack of dates.

It woulda been more sporting if you were here to defend yourself...

I thought Rick Barry lived in Florida. Shows what I know.

I wouldn't know Jan Stenerud if I saw him. I wouldn't know Floyd Little if I saw him, and he was the most famous Broncos player on the planet for a long time.

Former Rams/Steelers/Panthers LB Kevin Greene graduated from my high school 13 years before me....

That's about it for us. We're a loser town....

And, if anybody is a Hedwig and the Angry Inch fan, I went to elementary school with John Cameron Mitchell. We are the same age and we were in the same class. I seem to remember having a crush on him.

I was shocked to find out a few weeks ago that REM's Michael Stipe graduated from the high school in the next city over. I figured he grew up in the south....
