Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance after receiving treatment on the field for over 10 minutes, which resulted in the game between the Buffalo Bills and- Cincinnati Bengals being suspended until further notice Monday night.
CPR was administered to Hamlin on the field for a multiple minutes after he collapsed on the field following a play in the first quarter. He appeared to be receiving oxygen as he was placed in the ambulance and taken off the field.

Game postponed, not re-scheduled yet. I think they have to play this one -- isn't there a playoff spot at stake?
Hoping for the best for Damar . . .

There are multiple playoff spots at stake.
Commish Roger will figure it out.

The only comparable thing I can remember in football was the hit on Darryl Stingley by Jack Tatum, and that was over 40 years ago.
Hoping that he's going to be all right.

But this one didn't look like that intense of a hit (vs. other NFL hits). This shows how fragile we all are, no matter how strong we appear.

I was shocked that ABC/ESPN did not connect the dots and talk about the very comparable event from 2021 when a Danush player had a cardiac event and had to be shocked back to life while on the pitch. UEFA restarted the game after a brief suspension. In each event, players circled the players so that fans and photographers couldn’t see the lifesaving efforts.
Danish player recovered and actually played in the recent Works Cup, I think.

No disrespect to Hamlin or attempt to minimize the seriousness of his condition, but getting back to the original topic of the thread.
The NFL has determined that the Bills-Bengals game will not resume this week. Week 18 games will go on as scheduled and the league will make a determination if and when the Bills game will resume. Depending on the outcome of this weekend's games, the number one AFC seed (and first-round bye) may be at stake among Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Kansas City. Also the AFC North title (and home playoff game) may be at stake between Cincy and Baltimore.

I haven't seen any sports reporters mention Chris Pronger's injury, either.

Per CNN:
Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is awake and has been holding hands with family in the hospital following the 24-year-old’s in-game cardiac arrest Monday, his agent Rob Butler told CNN on Thursday.
Hamlin has shown “remarkable improvement,” his team said Thursday morning.
“Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours,” the Bills tweeted. “While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress.

Wonderful news.
Just a reminder that quick CPR saves lives. And defibrillators should be in every major public venue.

I tried to run through the possible scenarios, both with that game played and with it being cancelled. Made my head spin. As far as I can tell, it only matter for seeding as the Bengals, Bills, and Ravens are all in the playoffs.
There are scenarios for Sunday where it wouldn't have mattered, so hopefully those play out and no one will put an asterisk on the playoff seedings.

It looks like the NFL has decided that if the result of the cancelled game could have changed the home team of a matchup, that game will be played at a neutral site. --Bob

I think that was the key factor in the NFL decisions. They've moved games to neutral sites before, including this season when Buffalo already played a "home" game in Detroit due to weather. But it would have been real tough for a team to miss the playoffs because a game wasn't played.

Full credit to the Bengals Exec VP, Katie Blackburn, who sits on the Competition Committee. She voted against the proposal and encouraged other clubs to vote against it, stating "The proper process for making rule change (sic) is in the off-season. . . . It is not appropriate to put teams in a position to vote for something that may introduce bias, favor one team over another or impact their own situation when the vote takes place immediately before the playoffs."
I am interested what will be viewed to be a neutral site between Buffalo and Kansas City or between Kansas City and Cincinnati.

From Ian Rapoport on Twitter:
This is amazing: For the first time, #Bills S Damar Hamlin is addressing the team via Facetime. The breathing tube is out, and he’s spent the morning speaking to various teammates on Facetime. Now, he’s delivering a message to the entire group, I’m told.

Why is the first round bye not being discussed at all? Forget home field... a bye is freaking huge, and it looks like the cancellation has all but gifted that to the Chiefs....

Pittsburgh is 9 hours closer to Buffalo than KC, based on driving time.
Indy was a good choice, but declined.

Too bad. The Colts could have raised a Hosted AFC Championship banner.

Someone suggested Dallas, so the Cowboys at least could see what a conference championship game looks like.
