Hard Case Crime

#1 Post by danielh41 » Thu Dec 29, 2022 11:26 am

I've been on a Hard Case Crime kick lately, reading quite a few of them, mainly because the novel I'm writing now might be a good fit for them. Plus, I love the look of their books with the paintings they commission for covers. It was kind of funny to come across a WWTBAMBORED member's name out in the wild, but when I went to the Amazon page for Five Decembers by James Kestrel ( https://www.amazon.com/Five-Decembers-J ... 78909867X/ ), the first review I see in the list is by silverscreenselect.

I highly recommend Five Decembers (I don't give out many five-star reviews). It's a brilliant piece of writing, and I was surprised to find it on the Hard Case Crime label (and at a bargain price when I bought it). Hard Case Crime features a lot of vintage noir and hardboiled crime novels. Amazon has done away with its reviewer rankings (I was about #1900 when they suspended them a few months back), but their review algorithm favors reviewers who have a lot of reviews people like. It's very difficult to get on the first page for a book that's got a lot of reviews (over 2400 of them for Five Decembers), so I'm kind of excited to learn one of mine has made it that high on a book like this.

I finished reading Five Decembers last night, and it was the best novel I've read in quite a while. I highly recommend it as well...
