WWTBAM Bored

The Republican House leadership had a news conference today to discuss their agenda in the next Congress. Surely, with their constant criticisms of how bad the Biden administration was in handling the economy and how soft on crime they were, I expected them to announce a series of bills they planned to introduce to address these issues next year.

Instead, we got Hunter Biden, the laptop, and more Hunter Biden. James Comer, who will become Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has zeroed in on 100 Suspicious Activity Reports at the Department of the Treasury that he claims will prove the Biden family's perfidy. He claimed this wasn't about Hunter Biden but about Joe Biden, whose only involvement in this entire situation would appear to be the fact that he was the sperm donor for Hunter Biden. And of course the Republicans want to talk to Hunter and Joe Biden.

This is exactly what I thought would happen. The Hunter Biden "investigation" will become Benghazi 2. I have no doubt they will prove that Hunter Biden is a fairly pathetic failure who has cashed in on his family name over the years. He may well be involved in some illegal activities, probably related to tax reporting. And these investigations were ongoing before the Republicans took over.

Republicans convinced at least some swing voters that they had a plan on the economy, even though they never said what it was. That allowed them to take the House, barely. Let's see how long they can maintain that charade while Fox News is offering wall-to-wall coverage of the latest Hunter Biden hearing.

They are behaving like Democrats.

Aren't they just precious?

Reminds me of the Obamacare promises, except Healthcare might have a solution out there. Economics have a track record akin to alchemy. Easier to trot out old, failed solutions, be it GOP or Dem, than actually work on a real solution.

I have to withdraw my Healthcare statement. Too much economics involved for any hope.

I am now of the belief that no political position is viable in this current social media age. God help us all. ( Including Hunter Biden)

I think the evidence is pretty clear that Obamacare has reduced the ranks of the uninsured by tens of millions of people, and I'm pretty confident that virtually all of those people consider it a pretty good solution. --Bob

I prefer Medicare For All.

I'm fine with a public option, but here's the fundamental problem I have with Medicare for All. Suppose we had it, and private insurance was basically unavailable. The next time the Republicans command a trifecta, they'll re-pass the Hyde Amendment (assuming it ever gets repealed), and no one can get reproductive health care, even in states where it's absolutely legal, unless they can afford the full freight out of pocket. They'll do the same thing with other forms of treatment that the religious right doesn't like, such as gender-confirmation care, with the same consequences.

In short, Medicare for All risks putting Mitch McConnell in charge of what health care the middle class does and doesn't have access to. I'm not willing to take that risk. --Bob

That could happen, but I doubt the Republicans will ever have a trifecta again. That wouldn't last long if they did restrict Medicare. Remember what happened in Kansas?

That could happen, but I doubt the Republicans will ever have a trifecta again. That wouldn't last long if they did restrict Medicare. Remember what happened in Kansas?
