Below is a short description of 12 women who have played an important roll in the history of rock and roll music. Supply the correct name for each description (I practically give them away).

Bandstand - Woman Who Rock

Below is a short description of 12 women who have played an important roll in the history of rock and roll music. Supply the correct name for each description (I practically give them away).

1- She became a successful singer as part of a major rock act as well as a solo artist. After the release of her first solo album, Rolling Stone named her the "Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll." She was also named one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time and one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Her band was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 in a "landslide brought me down." What a great song.

Stevie Nicks

2- She has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and won nine Grammy Awards (out of 32 nominations). She and her big hair toured with Michael Jackson as a backing vocalist during his Bad tour 1987–1989 before going solo. Apparently, getting engaged to a lying, doping cyclist was her favorite mistake.


3- She is American blues singer and guitarist who recorded her first album in 1971, but found major success in 1989 when she won the Grammy for Album of the Year. In 2000, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just in the nick of time.

4- A messy divorce from her abusive husband in the late 1970s left her with only her name and her voice. She used both to win six Grammy awards in the 80s on the way to super stardom and, eventually, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tina Turner

5- She was literally the "Perfect" person to join an established rock/blues band from England. After she married the bass player, the band added two new members (one of whom is on this list) and became one of the biggest rock acts in history. She and her band were voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

6- She was the leader of the most successful "girl group" of all time in the 1960s. She later embarked on a successful solo career in music, film, television and on stage, including an Academy Award-nominated portrayal of a famous blues singer. In 1988, she and her group-mates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

7- She has released 24 studio albums (including some in Spanish) and 15 compilation or greatest hits albums. She charted 38 US Billboard Hot 100 singles. Twenty-one of those singles reached the top 40, ten reached the top 10, and one reached number one. She published an autobiography, Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir, in 2013 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Linda Ronstadt


8- She began her career as one of the staff songwriters at The Brill Building in NYC, eventually having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. One of her solo albums topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a performer and songwriter. She stills performs at age 80, so go see her before it's too late.

9- During college, a Seattle-based guitar player joined her older sister to become first hard rock band fronted by women. Their band has sold over 35 million records and she and her band mates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Sometimes these dreams do come true.

Ann Wilson.

10- The daughter of Andrew and Mildred Andrzejewski, this petite rocker's debut album contained covers of songs by John Cougar, Sweet and The Alan Parsons Project. She later married her guitar player (and they're still together after 40 years). The fact that it took until this year (next month to be exact) for her to get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a real heart breaker.

Pat Benatar

11- She is the last surviving member of her family's band. Named one of the '100 Greatest Singers of all Time' by Rolling Stone in 2008; she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, and in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2018. If you don't know where the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is, I'll take you there someday.
