Not just that but he was involved in Perot's '92 run for the presidency and was an organizer of the Unity 2008 movement to put an alternative candidate on the ballot (Michael Bloomberg and Chuck Hegel were considered as possibilities, IIRC).

They guy had three different kinds of cancer, and then wrote a book about all that, "No Such Thing as a Bad Day."

And, lest we forget, he smoked pot on the roof of the White House with Willie Nelson.
