Last President of the Soviet Union who watched the Berlin Wall come down and the Iron Curtain dissolve. He was better than some (like the current Russian President) but worse than he could have been.
Age 92.

I'm pretty sure he won his Nobel Peace Prize for his leading role in bringing both about.
