Lyrically Speaking 2022 - Day 13
July 13, 2022

The Great White North, a Timeline crossover.

Each of the songs below was performed by a Canadian recording artist and reached the top of one of the Billboard charts.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 2 points for the year the song hit #1 (see the Timeline Well, below)...

(Note: for my sanity, please gives responses in this format: title - artist - year)

1. Don't come hangin' 'round my door
I don't wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you

2. Where is the moment we needed the most?
You kick up the leaves, and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky's faded to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

3. The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

4. See every dream
And give her wings
When she wants to fly
Then when you find
Yourself layin' helpless in her arms

5. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean

6. When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win

7. She goes downtown
The boys all stop and stare
When she goes downtown
She walks like she just don't care, yeah

8. Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it's never touched a frying pan

9. He lay face down in the desert sand
Clutching his six-gun in his hand
Shot from behind, I thought he was dead
But under his heart was an ounce of lead

10. Touching you so warm and tender
Lord, I feel such a sweet surrender
Beautiful is the dream that makes you mine

11. 'Cause I'm your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

12. I never needed love
Like I need you
And I never lived for nobody
But I live for you
Ooh babe
Lost in love is what I feel

Working Man -- Rush (High school memories -- precreating the headbanging scene in Wayne's World, only with the drum solo from this song) ("And now, ladies and gentlemen, the Professor on the drum kit.")

American Woman - The Guess Who - 1970

2. Where is the moment we needed the most?
You kick up the leaves, and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky's faded to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

- Nickeback - 1990

3. The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles - 1989

4. See every dream
And give her wings
When she wants to fly
Then when you find
Yourself layin' helpless in her arms

- Nickeback - 2006

5. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean

Heart of Gold - Neil Young - 1972

6. When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win

Snowbird - Anne Murray - 1969

7. She goes downtown
The boys all stop and stare
When she goes downtown
She walks like she just don't care, yeah

Hot Child in the City - Nick Gilder (didn't know he was Canadian) - 1978

8. Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it's never touched a frying pan

One Week - Barenaked Ladies (Just saw them about a month ago...) - 1998

9. He lay face down in the desert sand
Clutching his six-gun in his hand
Shot from behind, I thought he was dead
But under his heart was an ounce of lead

- Nickeback - 1964

10. Touching you so warm and tender
Lord, I feel such a sweet surrender
Beautiful is the dream that makes you mine

Rock Me Gently - Andy Kim - 1974

11. 'Cause I'm your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

The Power of Love - Celine Dion - 1994

12. I never needed love
Like I need you
And I never lived for nobody
But I live for you
Ooh babe
Lost in love is what I feel

- Nickeback - 1995

I tied with LB!!!

Probably because I got Ringo by Lorne Greene. At one time, I had the whole song by heart. It almost suffered the same fate at CasaSprotsParents as did You Ain't Nothin But a Hound Dog about a decade earlier -- that is, it was almost banned because Mom got sick of hearing my older brother sing it all the time. But we quit singing it at all hours, probably in favor of I Want to Hold Your Hand and other little tunes by some unknown British group . . .
