Lyrically Speaking 2022 - Day 5
July 1, 2022
Freaky Friday

We're Number Two! A Timeline crossover.

Each of these wildly popular songs made all the way to #2 on the Billboard charts. That is quite an accomplishment and each song should be celebrated for coming oh, so close to the top. This is a three-part challenge, so remember...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 2 points for the year the song hit #2 (see the Timeline Well, below)...

1. I keep your picture
Upon the wall
It hides a nasty stain that's lying there
So don't you ask me
To give it back

2. Ah you never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you

3. The way that you hold me
Whenever you hold me
There's some kind of magic inside you
That keeps me from runnin'
But just keep it comin'
How'd you learn to do the things you do?

4. What do you think you'll do then?
I bet they'll shoot down the plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again

5. Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things, you know, are meant to be

6. You're so good
When we make love it's understood
It's more than a touch or a word can say
Only in dreams could it be this way

7. Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothin' else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak

8. He's got this dream about buying some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands
And then he'll settle down
In some quiet little town
And forget about ev'rything

9. And when you're out there without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

10. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, but what a thrill

11. Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they're after me

12. Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

13. You know you look so good
You know you got me goin' now
Just like I knew you would

14. I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend (hey)
Baby, I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had to end

Kroxquo Bonus: Name something/someone/some team who came up just short of the top. I have no doubt what SSS would contribute here...

I'd heard of a sports story reported in the Soviet Union where the Soviet team placed second, and the US team finished next to last. (Of course, it was a dual track meet so they were the only teams involved.)
