The reports of my demise have been.....

.....well, actually, there haven't been any such reports, but if there had been, they'd have been greatly exaggerated, I assure you.

Just thought I'd peek in here for a minute and let everyone know that I'm still alive. I did post a few times early in the year, but after a hiatus of almost three months, we must review: so far this year, I've been to Vegas twice, Oakland once, visited the headquarters of Facebook (I know someone who works there), played the tuba on Valentine's Day (company event), and met my company's president once and the CEO twice. I also started dating a co-worker (in January) and then stopped dating her again (this past weekend.) Don't feel bad for me....both events were happy occasions, though for very different reasons. )

But, with all of that out of the way, I'm actually looking to be around for a while, and having backtracked through months of posts, I can say this: Yes, Bob Juch, the Bored will be getting upgraded to phpBB 3.0. I had noticed that this version had become "final" not too long ago, but now that my web host has caught up by offering automated installs of it, I think it's a good time. However, I know better than to just go click the button and hope for the best. The Bored may disappear briefly in the middle of the night at various times over the next couple of weeks as I make backups and test things out a bit. I don't intend to make the Bored inaccessible during the day at any point, but if it becomes necessary, I'll warn you guys as far in advance as I can.

Any and all other improvements and upgrades will take a back seat for now, and once I get the Bored running on phpBB 3.0, I'll start looking at other things. Feel free to reply here with ideas, or post them over in the Suggestion Box forum.

It looks like the Beast and the Troll are doing a good job of administrating things without me, but if there's ever a site problem that might require my attention, I can always be reached by PM. And if no one's figured it out yet, the Bored runs as a subdomain of my primary site, normalview dot com. Just in case it's ever needed, my email address is my handle here @normalview dot com.

Good to see everyone again. I'll try to be a bit less of a stranger. 8)

Hmmmm. Yeah, I can see how it could have been read that way. But that did not happen, I assure you. When I stopped dating her, I guess it was more relief than happiness. But, oh well. C'est la vie.

I think I would like being married too. Just not to her. :D

Hey, Dave!

While prompting blanchesterblue to introduce himself the other day, I was thinking about how we could have any number of lurkers reading our postings without every bothering to register at all. That's always been true, of course, but that data wasn't available to us while we were hosted by Go.

Now that we're being hosted by your website, I was wondering if you had any visitor statistics you might like to share with us? How big is our "audience" out there?

:)

I'll need to sit down and see if it's even possible for me to know....besides the fact that I'm not sure how good the tracking of such things here anyway, I also know that the stats would be cluttered by all the spammers and search engine bots that frequently visit (or try to.)

If I can come up with anything interesting, I'll post it for all to see.
