Rep. Dan Crenshaw and his staff were violently confronted at the Republican Party of Texas convention a short time ago, when far-right social media activist Alex Stein and others whom witnesses described as Proud Boys began shouting “eyepatch McCain” at him – an attempted insult coined by Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson.

A witness to the incident tells Mediaite that in addition to Stein and others being escorted out of the building, “some arrests” were made at the scene. No photos or video have come out showing any at the time of this post.

“They got physical with multiple people, including hitting them with cameras,” a witness at the scene said. “His campaign manager was assaulted by being pushed aggressively into a pillar.”

You can see that part in the video above, which was shared by Stein and his blog. That version included a clip from Tucker Carlson’s show, in which the host refers to Crenshaw as “Eyepatch McCain” while speaking with Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.

In a photo shared with Mediaite, some of the ejected persons are seen outside the building wearing Proud Boys gear.

Update 1 – 4 pm:
Another Twitter user posted video of himself verbally accosting Rep. Crenshaw. There is no apparent shoving in the clip, but after shouting at the congressman, the user Alex Rosen shouts at various people in the hotel calling the congressman a “fraud” and a “World Economic Forum sell-out.” Another person applauds and shouts back that Crenshaw supports Red Flag laws.

In the video, Rosen also yells at an elderly woman that she is the “reason we’re in this situation” after she objects to his behavior.

At the end, another person with him shouts “Dan Crenshaw is a traitor! He needs to be hung for treason!” It may be the same individual seen in the red “45” hat in the above photo that was shared with Mediaite by witness.

This is what today's Republican party has become. People like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert play to this crowd, while "leaders" like Mitch McConnell try to look away.

And Flock reminisces about how many of them shared wristbands with him at the Trump/Perdue/Walker rally.

If that were true, Liz Cheney would still be Chair of the House Republican Conference, Tom Rice would have won his primary, the Texas Republican Party wouldn’t have adopted a plank calling President Biden’s election illegitimate, Otoro County in New Mexico would have certified its votes without requiring a court order, Donny would have been convicted in the Senate and disqualified from office for inciting an armed insurrection that came too close for comfort to killing the Vice President and the Speaker of the House, and Republicans wouldn’t be nominating scores of candidates who would refuse to honor election results they don’t like, including candidates for Secretary of State. —Bob

I may be mistaken, but about the only views that Bob shares with Liz Cheney are about the criminality of the former President and others associated with the January 6 insurrection. Before this, Cheney had a near perfect record with conservatives. She supported Donald Trump's position 93% of the time during his term of office (that was even more than Mark Meadows).

Claiming that Cheney is somehow a RINO or closet Democrat in essence makes the entire party platform secondary to support for Donald Trump.

OK, here's another:
If the Democrats had any integrity and respect for the Constitution they would put together an amendment to the Constitution to make changes to or repeal the 2nd Amendment which would allow them to make their common sense national gun laws. Which would never get ratified, or even if it did, not have any effect on the gun violence we are experiencing, IMO.

For an illuminating example of what the GOP could become, look at what's going on in Israel now. Likud, once the dominant right-wing party, is fixated on putting Bibi back in power (and keeping him out of jail). So every party that doesn't share that obsession, from right-wing settlers to centrists to socialists and even an Islamist party, formed a coalition that lasted a year.
