with soft on crime Chesa Boudin (the city prosecutor) going down in a recall effort in San Francisco and other recall efforts underway in other large cities to try and recall other similar prosecutors (The Soros Babies)-I am reminded of Solzhenitsyn.
The TPTB in The Gulag Archipelago had absolutely no problem with regular criminals. It was the guy who might have made a joke about Stalin who was in trouble.
Anyway, the soft on crime aspect of communism is a major theme in Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago (which I doubt anyone here has read).

Believe it or not, I agree that the DA should prosecute violent criminals and those who steal property.
I suspect everyone here agrees with that.
There are two sides to everything. Yes there is cop brutality and economic drivers of crime.
But also criminals make life bad for everyone else, so letting them go free does nothing to make society better.
Make Boudin can find another job down in Venezuela.

Serious response deserves a serious answer-with Solzhenitsyn as a background it is absolutely chilling to see the push for "Soft-on-crime" DA's and such.

BTW-If anyone is drawn to read The Gulag Archipelago.
I know there are abridged versions out there-but I can only speak to the full version.
When I first read it (in my early 30's) I found Volume 1 to be a bit of a slog-but I found Volume 2 and 3 to be transcendent
I next read them in my mid-50's and the whole work was awesome..

Wrong.
