Just an editorial

You all know as well as I do that WWTBAM was lost as a topic on this bored a long time ago. Most of us have been on this bored for decades now. There are a lot of personal connections here, a lot of games and a lot of dubious goings-on of other sorts. But most of the posts here nowadays are political in nature, much to the chagrin of some of you.
However, our political postings closely resemble how twitter works, which is one reason I've never joined it, or how the comments sections work on any controversial subject. One person might post something they believe, then dozens of people who don't agree with it start arguing with them, one calls the other a name, the curse words then start, others join in and escalate it and nothing is accomplished except rage and hate on both sides of the argument.
I left the bored several months ago because I was sick and tired of this. Anything I posted started that cycle, and you can see some of the ugly things I was called in my signature. Those that call me names don't bother me. I don't care, because I know where it's coming from. Frustration because I don't take their answers as gospel and I refuse to be bullied into taking their answers just because they are so passionate about how right they are.
I came back because I missed having a place where I could sit down and try and write what I thought on issues without it being open for the entire internet. I did not want to do this on Facebook, because I know I have friends with whom I probably totally disagree with politically, but we can keep in touch through facebook without getting into political arguments. So I did it here in this limited and isolated niche on the internet.
So in coming back, I tried to soften it up by presenting the viewpoints I had as a different perspective and tried to get people to DEBATE the issue rather than to get into heated arguments. Well, that didn't work. I tried a couple other things. All turned out to be pissing into the wind.
So, my latest idea was to make it into sort of a game. Instead of having a thread of the usual variety: (This is what I think, and here's somebody I found on the internet who agrees with me and says that people like you are pieces of excrement. Oh yeah, here's an article that says what you say is total BS. etc etc etc), I hijacked it and suggested we act like we were Congress and see if we could put together a mock 'Bill' into which we could put our ideas to actually solve the issue, vote on those ideas, maybe even find ways to COMPROMISE in the name of making a bill that would actually accomplish something, and then see what we came up with.
Nope. People who don't like me decided to try and sabotage it, people either intentionally or unintentionally just ignored it, attacked me personally, and no one seemed interested in doing anything differently than we have been from day one.
Do we really want to keep twittering past each other, insulting each other and showing each other that there's no hope of ever agreeing on anything? That's what's going on everywhere in our country now. Why in the name of God can't we, this small group, do better than that?
So I'm asking: Can anyone else come up with an idea how we can talk about major issues that affect all of us in a way that we can find some common ground, or are you all just happy to continue twittering at each other? Maybe it is just because it's me that it doesn't work.

You seem to be in some place between not being bothered by the death of children and thinking it is some kind of media conspiracy. I wonder how Bob Juch drew the conclusion that you were evil

C'mon. Keep that argument in one place, guys. Not here. That's already been in 3 threads. And you both know neither of you is going to give an inch or even hint one or the other of you has any kind of valid point. And you will raise the stakes until one or both you you start accusing the other of being
EVIL. I know that rarely happens. OOPS. I forgot. It just did.
Never mind. I must be spiraling here.

It’s a stupid idea because it would be expensive. Very expensive. For example, my child’s school would have to be rebuilt.
Also you’re basically talking about everywhere having multiple exits.
But not so many exits that metal detectors and “good guys with a gun” can’t protect them.
It sounds like that medical facility in Tulsa unfortunately had a high door to “good guy with a gun” ratio, so people died.

I guess in your world it is absolutely free to confiscate all privately owned firearms.
BTW-How much research did you do on the long-term effects of the Covid vaccines on kids before you stuck em in your kids for a disease that didn't affect them.
For example-what do the long-term trials show about the effects on the fertility of 6 year olds as they grow older?

If the vaccine had an effect on fertility, it would be the first vaccine to do so.
You are repeating YouTube garbage about the protein syncytin, which actually doesn’t look much like anything in the Covid vaccine.
If you gave a shit about fertility, you would want a cleaner environment, since there is probably correlation between chemicals in our water and male fertility.
But you probably need all those farm chemicals so you can sell more stuff.

One other thing. Where have I said that all guns must be confiscated?
I haven’t. I think you should have a lot of restrictions in terms of what it takes to get a gun. You have to have a license and a specific entrance policy and a pro long waiting period and you must pass a test and go through a lot of other credentialing, like other countries do
That’s not confiscating all of the guns
I suspect you would be able to achieve all of those credentialing requirements without any difficulty, but you’d rather have no restrictions at all. Which is to say, you don’t care if a few kids die, you want your guns now!

Well, judging from your responses to this thread, you don't seem to be willing to suggest ways where we can debate issues where we have a difference of opinion. But I am not sure you read through the first post I wrote, because your responses are not in reference to what I wrote.
If you did read the first post, then I have to assume you are intransient in your opinion that your views on many issues represents 'good' and other opinions are then automatically 'evil'. Or maybe it's just my perspectives on issues that you disagree with are evil. I don't know.
If that's the case, I shouldn't expect you to want to participate in any kind of debate or trying to find any common ground on any issue we disagree on.

Interesting you mention thalidomide. It was the American Food and Drug Association through its protocols that determined it was unsafe, where other countries failed to take that kind of close look.
You know, the same organization that felt this vaccine was safe.
I researched the vaccine quite a bit. Actually read articles and understood the science, and just didn’t read things on Facebook. As a frontline worker, it was a potential life and death decision for me.
Even today I look into the issue, as well as alternative therapies, to see if they work.
So I had a LOT invested in that decision.
I don’t know if that makes me smarter wise but it made me motivated.
Whereas you just seem to be bigoted and willfully ignorant. You actually know nothing of the technical details of any of this stuff, but you decided to take ivermectin and not the vaccine for cultural reasons.
Just seems kind of stupid to me.

Allright! The name calling and insult phase has begun.
Can we get to the profanity soon? Once that starts, the back and forth gets more heated and then the conversation usually ends soon after that.

Flock, reasonable people can disagree reasonably. Unfortunately, a large section of the populace, including several here, fell victim to the media mindbending that went on in the run-up to Trump's election win, and the subsequent meltdown. They've lost any ability they may have had to reasonably discuss differences of opinion. They are now firmly entrenched in their 'we against them' attitude as well as suffering from an abysmal ability to admit to being wrong. Sad, really, but I don't believe that's going to change any time soon.

You, tlynn, are in a political position, as I understand it. You must have to deal with this in a real life basis frequently.
It is frustrating when a portion of the population views anything you say as being evil. It didn't used to be that way. It is indeed sad that it has come to this.
