In my case emphasis on the word "road"!
Keep checking back for updates on locations and the cities we'll be visiting in August.
Sacramento
Monday June 23 Sacramento, CA.
Wednesday June 25 Las Vegas
Friday June 27 Atlanta
No , I won't be going to either of the 2 western sites. Only local auditions within a few hours driving distance are in my wheel house.

Decisions, decisions. My Crosswords appearance first aired on September 17. And if lightning struck and I got the

card, I'd be really, really annoyed to get the eligibility call before the one-year anniversary. Las Vegas is just far enough away that I don't consider it a casual trip. So I've got some thinking to do.
Most likely I'll consider this season a sacrifice to my earlier appearance. But if I do get to New York after (or shortly before) my anniversary date, I'll probably give it a shot. --Bob

I doubt one syndicated show would mind your appearance on another syndicated show.
If they do, you could just point out that the air date would need to be a few weeks into the season, which shouldn't be a problem.

The official rules seem pretty clear on this subject. I don't think they'd have discretion to disregard them. If I were to get The Call within a year of my air date, I wouldn't be eligible. --Bob

What I'm saying is that you would say, "I am not eligible right now but I will be in a few weeks/months." If they want you, they'll reschedule.

Bob, don't let the Crosswords appearance stop you from auditioning.. The one year anniversary of your appearance on Crosswords is so close to the beginning of the season that it's just not a big deal. There's a spot on the forms to indicate if and when you've been on a TV game show. If they want you on WWTBAM, I'm sure they can handle it from there.[/i]
Important Date Corrections of my Initial Post!

Something in my copy command messed up the first post!
Movie trivia buffs can also try out at our road auditions this summer. We'll be holding auditions in Sacramento June 23rd, Las Vegas June 25th and Atlanta June 27th. There's NO sign up for road auditions.

They'll probably post that information as the date gets closer.
But why would the choice of venue influence your decision?

Simple. I need ample time to request vacation time at my business, so the sooner I know where in ATL the audition is, the better chance I have of going. The particular venue doesn't matter. I just need the proper information before it's too late to put in my vacation request.

So what you need to know is the date, not the venue. And they've already said that's June 27.

*insert Sam Kinison scream*
I
do need to know the venue. I want to be able to reserve a motel room as close to that venue as possible so I don't have to do a whole lot of driving to and from the audition site. Besides, I've driven through A-Town only twice so I'm not as familiar with that city as, say, Philadelphia.
What I meant by "the particular venue doesn't matter" is that where in Atlanta the audition is held has no impact on whether or not I go. What matters is that
I know where I'm going before it's too late.

Chill, Sam.
I'm prepared to give you the same, level-headed, unromantic advice I give gsabc in his BD**2 threads.
Request the vacation day now. Reserve the hotel room when they announce the venue.

Probably the same place as last time, which was the same place as the WSOPC.
What, you want to know the name of the hotel. Sorry, that I have forgotten.

Why am I thinking it was a Hilton hotel downtown? Just seems like it. Ellyn will know, but she's off at some spa pampering herself at the moment.

The 2002 Atlanta auditions were held in a hotel near the MARTA Peachtree Center Rail Station.
I believe they were held at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, 165 Courtland Street.
The Hilton's address is 255 Courtland Street NE.

The issue isn't Millionaire's air dates. The Official Rules say that if I receive the qualifying call less than a year after my appearance, I'm not eligible. That means, since I'm an out-of-town contestant, that I can't tape until approximately three weeks after my anniversary date, and there aren't that many taping dates remaining this season after that date.
My concern is being trapped in bottom-of-the-pile limbo. If I have a good audition and get the happy card, there isn't much window for me this season. (I agree that if they really, really want me, they'll call back, but given my demographics and past track record, I have little expectation I'll fall into that category. It's certainly not the way to bet.)
Then I'd have a stale but not expired happy card during the 2009 season, and we've all seen how frequently those mature into The Call. On top of this, Las Vegas is far enough away that it would require significant effort. If I were going to be in New York during audition season anyway (other than a brief stopover for a funeral), I'd do it, and if the traveling audition were closer, I'd do it, but given the combination of significant inconvenience and possibility of shooting myself in the foot, I remain inclined to wait for next year. --Bob

You gotta be in it to win it.
Or you could just be in the stands watching the winners and the losers.
Either is a fine place to be.
You just have to pick one.
