First place!
You've gotta enjoy these moments when the opportunity presents itself. My beloved New York Mets extended their major league record for the best Opening Day record with today's victory, and in so doing took undisputed possession of first place in the National League Eastern Division. Let's go Mets! --Bob

Re: First place!
And my Astros have sole possession of first place in the AL West.
In similar news we purchased MLB TV for the Astros last summer when we moved in with my daughter in Denver so we could continue to watch the Astros.
Since we are in Weatherford now, I was considering getting it for the season but looked into it and Weatherford is in the Astros/Rangers blackout area. Then I saw where they auto renewed me anyway. The auto renew was at the menu rate and only for the Astros. They were having a "deal" where I could have purchased the all teams for the same price, so I cancelled that renewal. But still didn't sign up.
Yesterday I decided to go ahead and get the package. If games are blacked out I will just sign into a VPN on my computer then cast the game to the TV. So I go to purchase and everything was now full price. So I Googled MLB TV Discounts and saw where they offer discounts to military and former military. I had to go to a special link, upload my discharge documents for verification (it took only about 1 minute) and I got $49 off my All Teams annual subscription. Sweet!
Having One Drive and all my important documents scanned in has been great. I was able to do all that sitting at the airport waiting for my flight.

Heck, I'll play. The Rockies are tied with the Padres for first in the NL West.

Re: First place!
By outlasting their opponents in a slugfest (something the Mets' lineup was utterly incapable of last year), the Mets have extended their division lead to a season-high game and a half.
In other news, a baseball crime was committed today. Clayton Kershaw threw 7 perfect innings in 80 pitches. Then Dave Roberts pulled him from the game. I'm guessing Kershaw said all the right things in post-game interviews, and I get pulling a young pitcher in a similar situation, as Roberts did a few years back. But it's Clayton Kershaw and it was only 80 pitches. I wish he'd gotten the opportunity to finish what he started. --Bob

Re: First place!
Down to their final strike, the Mets refuse to lose, putting up a 5-spot with two outs in the ninth inning (including a go-ahead 2-run infield single followed by a first-pitch 2-run homer) to win tonight's game and extend their lead in the National League East to a season-high four and a half games. --Bob

Re: First place!
Tonight, an even more historic win. Down by 6 runs going into the ninth inning, the Mets put up a seven-spot to hand the lead to Edwin Diaz. Diaz closed with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, so Miami's loss extends the Mets' lead in the National League East to a season-high five and a half games.
Despite leading the division for more than 100 days last season, at no time did the Mets finish play* 10 games over .500. Tonight, they've reached that mark for the second time this season. --Bob
*The completion of a suspended game retroactively put them 10 games over .500 at one point, since suspended games are credited to the starting day, no matter when they finish.

I went to bed confident that the Phillies had won and was shocked this morning!Bob78164 wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 11:25 pmTonight, an even more historic win. A week ago, the Mets got a no-no against the Phils. With last night's loss, the Phillies have dropped 5 to the Mets and won only 2.

Last year, despite spending months in first place, the Mets never exceeded 10 games above .500. Today, they achieved a mark 11 games above .500, and in the process extended their lead in the National League East to a season-high 7 games. --Bob

The Mets of May bear little resemblance, so far, to teams of years past that have caused me to tear my hair out. Today's win extends New York's lead in the National League East to a season-high eight and a half games. --Bob
