I'm sure that Hitler's "goals" in 1944 would have been considerably less than they were three years earlier. The Russians badly misjudged Ukrainean resistance and the competence of their own army. Their main "goal" right now is to get their forces around Kyiv out of harm's way before they get totally chopped up.
