For those d'un certain age who had apartments in the 70s, remember areca palms?
Wouldn't they add an ironic, nostalgic piquant sense of...
whatever? Really. Faux palms so Merv doesn't pee in them in his semi senility.

They'll work but you've gotta have lava lamps and dark paneling.

I had to Google a picture, but those would be gorgeous in your space. I'd forego the lava lamps and paneling.
