Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Dead at 50

Taylor Hawkins, the jovial, ferocious drummer for Foo Fighters for more than two decades, has died at the age of 50, according to a statement from the band.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” read the message, which was posted to social media. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.” Foo Fighters are currently on tour in South America and were scheduled to perform at Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia, at the time of Hawkins’ death, a rep for the band told Rolling Stone. No cause of death was given.

Hawkins appears with the rest of the Foo Fighters as fictionalized versions of themselves in the recent horror comedy Studio 666. In it the band records their new album in a mansion that's haunted, and Dave Grohl is possessed. Hawkins and the other band members come to rather grisly ends in the film.

I have a feeling the movie wouldn't have been released if Hawkins had died two months ago.

From Variety on Twitter:

"It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins," reads a statement from the group.

The Foo Fighters won three Grammys tonight: Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Performance. Host Trevor Noah noted the group's absence (they had been scheduled to perform before Hawkins' death) and they did a video montage tribute to Hawkins that led into the traditional In Memoriam segment.

I do not like the new In Memoriam method where they feature the live singers in front and many of the honorees on a screen in the back. I can barely read the names on the screen. I know they're just trying to get more live music in, but I do not like it.
