I listened to the whole thing and thought she was talking down to "laymen" as if they were elementary schoolers. Do laymen really not know that Ukraine is a country and Russia is a really big country right next to it?

"Layman" does not usually equate to moron. Our VP either actually has that level of understanding of the issue, or a level of disdain for her audience that allowed that response. An ex-president of the United States should know how comments like these would be taken in Russia, where they played clips of Trump and Tucker Carlson on state TV for days on end leading up to the invasion. But so many here in the west do not have a good understanding of the history of Ukraine and Russia, tha perhaps a simple explanation was warranted. Hopefully it will inspire research and more clarity of what we truly face if Putin is not stopped.
