Maybe, Mr. "Jewish Ginger Resister", if a few more of the Eastern European Jewry, circa 1932, had done things that make you uncomfortable there might not have been 5.2* million dead Jews under Nazism.

*I know many use the number 6 million, but the best analysis I have seen (Timothy Snyder's Bloodlands) uses the number 5.2 Million.

Hs Twitter handle also begs the question-he obviously is "Uncomfortable" with armed resistance-so if the "Shit Hits the Fan"-how much good will his brand of "Resistance" be?

Is there any reason to go into this other than to annoy people? The six million figure came from testimony at the Nuremberg trials and later the trial of Eichmann. Other historians have reached similar results, some lower and some higher.

I've read similar comments about how "if only the Jews were armed" as an excuse for right wing militia whose intended targets generally include Jews, along with various people with dark skins, for years. The vast majority of those killed in the concentration camps came from other occupied countries (including many Jews who fled Germany to adjacent countries). So to suggest that Jews or anyone in Poland, Austria, Holland, Czechoslovakia, France and all the other occupied countries "done things" circa 1932 is ludicrous. One figure I've heard is that 165,000 German Jews died in the Holocaust, as did nearly three million Polish Jews and over one million Russian Jews. Those other countries had modern armies that couldn't ward off the Nazi invasion. And for the record, Jews did join resistance movements in nearly every occupied country, so they were "doing things."

Jews resisted the Nazis in many ways: armed combat (like my cousin), hiding and escaping (and helping others to do so), staying alive in the concentration camps, and in the worst case dying with dignity. In the face of a genocidal tyrant, all of these are heroic. We have no right to judge which is the most appropriate.

Your post was much more painful than Whoopi Goldberg's ignorant comment, since it was made by someone with deep knowledge of history and a friend. Please, David, don't use the Shoah to make a political point.

If we’re talking about giving them a skill that will help them down the road, like math or sewing, sure. This would help you if you joined the military. We need soldiers to defend the country.

But my suspicion is that this is anti government nuttery.

FYI. No one wants to take your land. No one wants to take all of your money. It’s Wyoming. It’s crazy cold there during the winter. Great to visit, but no one’s rushing to move there, unless it’s to Jackson, and that’s outside the price point of most of the nutters.

The recent biography of Robert Smalls is titled Be Free or Die. Smalls is the slave who escaped Charleston Harbor with his family by commandeering a steamship loaded with Confederate cannons and turning the ship and the cannons over to the US Navy. He is eventually became a member of the US Congress. The biography is very good.
