Hey SSS, Note From Frontier Partisans

I know in your fever dream world me and my buddies at Frontier Partisans like to go around coughing in peoples' faces. Just thought you might be interested in this note from JimC-the head honcho over there and at Running Iron. I figured he was vaxxed-but it simply does not matter there-basically neither does politics for that matter.

>>>>"***Obligatory note: I am vaccinated and boosted. I think it’s the smart play. I’ve dodged catching the Rona despite multiple close contacts, and the friends and loved ones who have caught it and are vaccinated have fared well. I’ve known some unvaccinated folks who died from it. I think people should get the jab, but I don’t believe they should be forced to do so.***<<<<<

What I find notable about this is that his sole expressed reason for getting the jab is to protect himself, to lower his personal odds of dying or getting seriously ill from COVID. Not a word about getting vaccinated to protect those around him.

If getting vaccinated were just about protecting yourself, then I'd agree that it should be a personal decision. But it's not and never has been. Getting vaccinated is also about protecting those around you, particularly those who can't get vaccinated or those (like T-Bone) who are (or in T-Bone's case, were) particularly vulnerable to severe disease even after vaccination. --Bob

T-Bone is the first person I know who died from COVID. And for the first time, this hit home in a way that seeing statistics or reading about a few B and C-list celebrities couldn't. And what I'm feeling can't compare to what his family and the families of others who lost parents, grandparents, spouses, children, and siblings have gone through. Or what people like Krox's daughter will go through possibly for the rest of her life. I made it a point not to comment before now, but Spock brings up the subject, albeit indirectly.

I agree with Bob. Not just about vaccines, but every step of the way, people have resisted taking measures to limit the spread of the disease or its severity. And in many cases it's a matter of pure partisan politics. That's why COVID death rates in the US exceed those in most other wealthy countries and the death rate since the Omicron spike is 63% higher than any other wealthy country. We are now living proof, or in many cases dying proof, of what happens when you ignore science and public health measures in the name of "freedom" and partisan politics. Refusing a vaccine isn't just a personal decision like smoking. It continues to kill those around you and continues to multiply the odds of even deadlier mutations of the disease. T-Bone paid the price for other people's "freedom."

That's the problem with the Right Wing; they don't feel responsible for their fellow humans. Not just COVID, but sufficient food, clean air, clean water, etc.
