Per the official logline, this iteration of Quantum Leap would pick up 30 years after Scott Bakula’s Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished, at which point “a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.”

Since Sam never returned home in the original series it would seem to be an easy thing to have his now aged by 30 years character be in the series somehow.

That starship thing doesn't happen for another 100 years, but with both Enterprise and NCIS being a product of the snow globe, I guess anything can happen.
