Don’t Look Up

#1 Post by Vandal » Tue Jan 04, 2022 5:29 pm

We saw this on Netflix last week and I really liked it. It’s not a smack you down satire that some hoped it would be, but it has solid performances from its all star cast. I always like it when pretty actors have to play down their looks, like Leo and JLaw do here (her Mark Davis bangs notwithstanding), while they swear like sailors.

Most of the performances were intentionally over the top and done well. Jonah Hill is a treasure. Ditto Cate Blanchett.

The speech by the President (Streep) on the battleship (USS Massachusetts) and other scenes were filmed right across the water from us in Fall River last winter. The fireworks were real and spectacular.

I’ve read some bad reviews of this movie. I guess they didn’t get it. I’d like to think I did.

Not exactly subtle in its message but still very worthwhile. Great perforrmances all around. Unfortunately the people who most need to hear what it has to say will be the ones least likely to see it.
