Supreme Court Allows Texas Abortion Law to Stand

It was a one-sentence opinion that dismissed the writ of certiorari as "improvidently granted." Justice Sotomayor dissented. The ruling means that the Texas law remains in force until the courts rule on the merits. It's pretty clear that whatever decision courts make on the merits will be shaped by the eventual ruling in the pending Mississippi abortion case.
