RIP Demaryius Thomas

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:36 pm

All-pro wide receiver with the Denver Broncos and, before that, one of the best wide receivers ever at Georgia Tech. He is best remembered for catching the 80-yard touchdown pass from Tim Tebow to beat Pittsburgh on the first play of overtime in the 2011 playoffs. Thomas retired before the 2021 season. He was found dead at his home today by Roswell, GA police. So far, there are no indications of foul play or substance involvement in his death.

This one really hit me. Bey Bey was one of my favorite players at Tech this century.

We'll lift a glass to Demaryius tomorrow. I remember this as if it were this year (except we won't be making the playoffs this year . . .):

SteelersFan says he doesn't remember it at all (I believe him).

Peyton Manning's charitable foundation has funded a scholarship in Thomas's name to be awarded to incoming Georgia Tech students from Thomas' home of Laurens County. Manning played with Thomas on the Broncos for several seasons.

The Boston University CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) revealed this week that Thomas was suffering from CTE at the time of his death. Thomas' family donated his brain to the center at his request. The cause of his death is officially an undetermined seizure, which is a common symptom of CTE.

It's my understanding that CTE can't be positively confirmed unless the patient has died. That will change, they'll come up with some sort of test, sooner or later.

Matias is going out for football. Aargh! (Cringe.) Hopefully there won't be any severe injuries in middle school, and he'll come to his senses by high school.

Today (8/8) was Demaryius Thomas Day at Georgia Tech. He wore #8 at Tech and #88 with the Broncos. They unveiled a "DT8" logo on the field that will appear at all home games this year. They also announced that henceforth the number 8 will be worn by the Tech player who best exemplifies Thomas's character. Among the speakers at the ceremony was Peyton Manning. He and his wife have endowed a scholarship in Thomas's name to benefit students from Thomas's home Laurens County.

The medical examiner released the official autopsy report two days ago and found that Thomas died of seizure disorder complications.

My oldest grand will be playing HS football this year. (cringe here) I did not enjoy his wrestling career - nobody hurts my boy.
