A good many people remember the date we lost John Lennon, but few easily recall the date George Harrison left us. Not surprising, considering the way each one departed. Living up to his label as "The Quiet Beatle", George went out with dignity and a whisper, at peace. Not as well known was his wicked sense of humor, which he kept to the very end. I love this story from when Ringo visited George, who was on his deathbed and unable to do much of anything, both knowing it was the last time they'd see each other. Ringo, as he prepared to leave, reluctantly told George he had to catch a flight to Boston to visit his daughter, also ill at the time. George, straight-faced, responded "Do you want me to come with you?" Gotta love it.
It's been twenty years already. Unbelievable.

John was a poet bar none, and Paul understands pop better than most, but George was my favorite.
You can pick out his slide guitar a mile away. He built back up the careers of Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne and so many others, without needing to always be the main guy.

You are quite correct. George's sound was quite unique. Carlos Santana and Mark Knopfler also are in that category.
