WASHINGTON -- A federal judge sentenced Jacob Chansley, better known as the "QAnon Shaman," to 41 months in prison -- a harsh sentence that reflects the defendant's role as a symbolic leader in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

"What you did here was horrific, as you now concede," said U.S. Judge Royce Lamberth. "It is the type of conduct that is so serious that I cannot justify downward departure."

What exactly did he do that was so so bad, horrific, as the judge said?

The article says he "wasn't accused of assaulting law enforcement or destroying property," yet he got the same sentence as a mixed martial arts fighter who assaulted a cop. Seems fair.

Charles Manson didn't "do" anything either. But since you asked:
"The government cannot overstate the seriousness of the defendant's conduct as one of the most prominent figures of the historic riot on the Capitol on January 6, 2021," prosecutors said in their filing. "The defendant was among the first 30 rioters to penetrate the U.S. Capitol building. The defendant then stalked the hallowed halls of the building, riling up other members of the mob with his screaming obscenities about our nation's lawmakers, and flouting the 'opportunity' to rid our government of those he has long considered to be traitors."

Multiple videos and images showed Chansley carrying his spear into the Senate chamber, where prosecutors say he led a group of rioters in a prayer on the dais and left a menacing note behind for then-Vice President Mike Pence. "It's Only A Matter of Time. Justice Is Coming!" the note read. According to a brief presented to a judge in January, "Chansley is a high-profile leader and the self-professed shaman of QAnon."

Probably should have 'just' burned down a few businesses.

Probably not:

https://www.kwqc.com/2021/08/11/galesbu ... -protests/
105 months (8 3/4 years) for setting fire to a cell phone store in Minneapolis

https://www.tampabay.com/news/tampa/202 ... ced-today/
5 years for setting fire to a sporting goods store in Tampa

https://www.koin.com/news/protests/port ... n-assault/
4 years for arson and assault for setting fire to Justice Center in Portland ($46,000 damage)

https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/c ... 802356002/
Mandatory minimum 5 years to 20 for setting fire to courthouse in Memphis

https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne ... d-precinct
4 years for arson in setting fire police precinct in Minneapolis plus ordered to pay $12 million in restitution.

These were all guilty pleas that were undoubtedly the results of plea bargains. But all of them are more severe sentences than what the QAnon shaman got.
