A-21. KIM HUNTER - Night of the Hunter starring Shelley Winters (B-24. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE)??

Any ideas?

Not sure how "unbilled" works, though.

The Tangredi matches two actors and two films to form a quartet. If this is correct, then there would be a second film. Night of the Iguana is on the list, which makes for a match with Kim Hunter.

I know. I was seeing if a partial - if it is even a correct partial - might spark something. Another idea to play with, coupled with the Howard ideas you had earlier.

Two hints:

(a) Variants of this Tangredi have been used before in a general quiz, using Associated Words instead of movies.

(b) There was discussion here of how Curly might be used. I could have used Moe instead ... but not Larry.
The previous times that Frank had multiple associated words in a puzzle, he matched two names together in two different ways, each paired with a different associated word.
5. Bob Gibson + 88. Dylan Thomas = Bob Dylan (Rolling) and Thomas Gibson (Greg)
This puzzle can't involve just using the names to form other names, because there aren't any other Strathairns or Orbachs. But Howard suggests that the name Howard goes with some other actor's name to form a different name, perhaps one that's in one of those movies.

Can the movies somehow be the Associated Words?

I am ready to head next-door for my post-Christmas tea with my neighbor. I can play with this in a while - if it's not solved next.

Okay, I think some help is called for.

A-17 and A-31 form the actor half of one of the foursomes.

That is Eileen Brennan and Jessica Lange. They both played a character named Doreen - Brennan in "Private Benjamin" and Lange in "Don't Come Knocking". Is that anything?

Don't Come Knocking is a fairly obscure role in Lange's filmography, and I think this would lead to far too many matches among actors. My guess is that half the male actors on this list have played a character named "John" or "Bob" at one time or another, and the females could easily have played "Mary." I keep going back to Curly Howard. Since Moe Howard would also have worked, but Larry Fine wouldn't, then the link has something to do with the word "Howard."

Trying to kickstart this again. There are three main ways that an actor can be part of a Tangredi: Their name, a role they played, or a movie they were in. Frank says that the actors are used in two different ways. Since Frank has pretty much indicated that Curly Howard is on the list for "Howard," then one of the ways would seem to be the actor's last name. In this case, that would mean that the Tangredi involves "Brennan" or "Lange." The only other acting Brennan I know of is Walter Brennan, while the other Langes are Hope Lange, Eric Lange, and Ted Lange from The Love Boat.

Maybe something will ring a bell here.

Looking over Walter Brennan's screen credits on IMDB, a few jump out -

He played Sheriff Bill Howard in Surrender

He played Walter in The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle and in looking at Hope Lange, she played Hope in The Young Lions. Probably doesn't mean anything but I am just spitballing.

I got so excited I woke myself up

Claire Trevor was in Murder My Sweet
Trevor (Curly) Howard was in Brief Encounter

I thought something may have to do with names.

The problem is, the Claire in the puzzle is Bloom.
