Game of the (20th) Century

This Saturday marks another chapter in the history of Nebraska-Oklahoma football games, 50 years (almost) after what was and is billed "The Game of the Century" -- the Thanksgiving Day game between #1 Nebraska and #2 Oklahoma.
I believe that season (1971) was the last year where 3 teams from the same conference ended the year as #1, #2, and #3. The Game likely is the biggest reason why the 1971 Husker team is called the best CFB team ever (rivaled only by the 1995 Husker team).
Being an infant at the time, I have no recollections of the game, but I certainly can remember so many hard fought games in the 1970s and 1980s with the Sooners, with Nebraska too often on the losing side. To me, it was the best type of rivalry -- one of respect. I never hated OU; I just thought that they cheated. (I swear that Elvis Peacock played for 8 years.) One of the best kept secrets was how good of friends Tom Osborne and Barry Switzer actually were. (Both were the OC's for the 1971 game and then got the HC gig in 1973.) Angelic Tom and Devilish Barry made for a peculiar pair.
I have no great illusions about this year's game. Nebraska likely will shoot itself in the foot a few times early in the game, and I will get some work done around the house.
